Hope. Change. America.
UMass Daily Collegian ^ | 11/10/08 | O'Malley

Posted on 11/10/2008 8:13:11 AM PST by pabianice

Well, I hope that everyone is enjoying their first week in the new era of hope and change under president-elect Barack Obama.

I must say to every Republican on this campus that was bombarded with condescending text messages from their Democratic friends on Tuesday, I apologize.

In time, however, they too will come to accept this new period of hope-ness and change-itude. No longer will we serve under this Republican regime of privatized health care and tax breaks for everyone. Now is the beginning of a new age, in which the American people will be able to change things to something else, which is different from how things are now.

Change.

But that's the thing about change. It's always changing, with hope. As long as we, with Barack Obama, can move forward and change things - that's progress. And progress is America.

It's already started to happen in Massachusetts. Just take a look at Question One. There was a contingent in this state that wanted to go against change and mess with the state income tax. But the state knew what we needed and rejected that bill. Now that's change. And change is America.

Now, these views may be a little bit optimistic, and they may create a minor problem for the president-elect.

With the expectations that Obama has set, anything he could possibly accomplish in office will ultimately be a letdown. Obama has painted a very pretty picture of America, but there are just too many smudges on the current one to create a masterpiece.

The economy is awful and will take years to improve, regardless of how much hope and change we put into it. The war in Iraq roars on even though we've been showering the people with hope and democracy and America. Plus, this administration refuses to bring the Hamburglar to justice.

I digress.

Despite all of this, everyone that listens to Obama speak in public is transfixed by the hope and the sense of change that he exudes. The man literally sweats little droplets of hope. And hope is America.

Obama painted a pretty picture of change, but let the masses fill in the change they wanted. I really don’t think the masses will be happy with the details when Obama starts showing what he meant by change.

That about sums it up.

Barack is already helping the economy. Gun buying is through the roof.

I like the thought of politics being like a pendulum that swings back and forth.

The policies and changes that an Obama administration will try to implement will cause the pendulum to swing our way.

He is inheriting the worst economy since the late 70’s and early 80’s. That will hamstring him enough to slow him down and give us a good chance in 2012.

Obama Wins, Economy’s Doomed:

Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital and author of ‘The Little Book of Bull Moves in Bear Markets,’ says a big-government Obama administration will lead to an economic collapse on par with the Great Depression.

Well, I hope that everyone is enjoying their first week in the new era of hope and change under president-elect Barack Obama.

Obama's "change" message is not new.

Saul Alinsky on "Change"...
From Rules for Radicals, Alinsky outlines his strategy in organizing, writing:

"There's another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution."[2]

"The Communist Party USA views the 2008 elections as a tremendous opportunity to defeat the policies of the right-wing Republicans and to move our country in a new progressive direction.

The record turnout in the Democratic Presidential primary races shows that millions of voters, including millions of new voters, are using this election to bring about real change. We wholeheartedly agree with them."

From AsiaTimesOnline, Feb 26, 2008

Barack Obama received at least some instruction in the Islamic faith of his father and went with him to the mosque, but the importance of this experience is vastly overstated by conservative commentators who seek to portray Obama as a Muslim of sorts. Radical anti-Americanism, rather than Islam, was the reigning faith in the Dunham household. ...

Barack Obama is a clever fellow who imbibed hatred of America with his mother's milk, but worked his way up the elite ladder of education and career. He shares the resentment of Muslims against the encroachment of American culture, although not their religion. He has the empathetic skill set of an anthropologist who lives with his subjects, learns their language, and elicits their hopes and fears while remaining at emotional distance. That is, he is the political equivalent of a sociopath. The difference is that he is practicing not on a primitive tribe but on the population of the United States.

There is nothing mysterious about Obama's methods. "A demagogue tries to sound as stupid as his audience so that they will think they are as clever as he is," wrote Karl Krauss. Americans are the world's biggest suckers, and laugh at this weakness in their popular culture. Listening to Obama speak, Sinclair Lewis' cynical tent-revivalist Elmer Gantry comes to mind, or, even better, Tyrone Power's portrayal of a carnival mentalist in the 1947 film noire Nightmare Alley. The latter is available for instant viewing at Netflix, and highly recommended as an antidote to having felt uplifted by an Obama speech. ..."

Unfortunately, Obama's energy policy of:

- don't drill anywhere

- remove existing access to "fragile" federally owned lands

- Carbon Cap scam

- don't build new nukes

- don't build new coal

is going to put the nail in our economic coffin while bolstering the economies our enemies. Combine that with a scale back in military spending on 'future weapon' technologies and we will lose our military edge, and the world will become a much more dangerous place.

Hope: You're to impotent, feeble, and naive to manage your own life. The government needs to mange you retirement, health care, and education.

Change: Free stuff. Given to you by taking from the rich.

“He is inheriting the worst economy since the late 70’s and early 80’s. That will hamstring him enough to slow him down and give us a good chance in 2012.”

The economy was doing great until the American public voted in the Dems in 2006 (house/senate) then their selfish ambition and concern over their party became their main concern. Their concern was not for the American public but to sabotage the economy and run it into the ground so the the republican party would take the fall! Sorry folks but from 2002 through 2007 the economy was on fire. I won’t get into details, but we all know it. Also, the MEDIA played a huge role in creating panic about the economy and the Iraq war....yes, the Media whispered fear into everyone’s ear and caused confidence to dip.

A famous “Marxist” once said “you tell a lie long enough people will believe it...” And we all know the media is heavily slanted towards the left...along with teachers of all schools, etc.

The entire Iraq war....once again if the media was positive and reported the “good” this war would be a huge win for the right. Seriously, talk to the soldiers and Iraqis’ who now have the freedom to vote and “free enterprise”. Also, I have dealt with FBI, CIA and UN inspectors and there is no doubt in my mind that we did the right thing and it’s the right war!! Challenge me, I don’t care. Ask the troops, they’ll tell you first hand.

In about 6-24 months this country will be on it’s knees praying we had someone like Bush back in office.

There is something wrong when evil dictators who despised Americans now are congratulating the new President elect...wake up people!

Truer words were never spoken.

Great satire. The way to win-over the non-thinking is through satire and derision. They may like wishful thinking, but they're more afraid of being uncool.

Sure, persuasion with the truth is the best way to win hearts and minds, but that approach doesn't work with irrational people.
