Shame on John McCain for Not Defending Sarah Palin
Pajamas Media ^ | November 12, 2008 | Melissa Clouthier

After every failed campaign, the losers analyze the defeat with the hope of discovering What Went Wrong so the mistakes aren’t repeated. It’s a process that is absolutely necessary in order to learn and succeed in the future.

When the controversy started swirling before the voting had even commenced, mostly from moderate, ostensibly intellectual corners, the criticism seemed self-serving at worst and ill-timed at best. Many writers discredited themselves. Far from being foresighted (a blind man could see the direction the McCain campaign was going), they showed themselves to be opportunists with little restraint or moral courage in the face of almost certain defeat. Rather than do what they could to possibly stop the stampede, they spooked the horses.

That was two weeks ago. Today, it’s time for rigorous examination and assessment. And boy, are the McCain staffers, unchecked by John McCain, assessing. Here are some of their conclusions: They have decided that rather than specific failed policies (can anyone, anywhere, to this day articulate McCain’s plans for the economy?) or strategies (Mr. Nice Guy) or leadership (running around like a headless chicken and suspending the campaign to participate in doomed negotiations), the real problem was Sarah Palin. No rigorous self-examination. Instead, they did what the least savory sorts do: find a scapegoat.

Oh for God’s sake! what is he supposed to do? Go on a 24/7 “dont pick on Sarah” tour?

This is not about Sarah Palin, it's about John McCain. For one so obsessed with conducting an ‘honorable’ campaign, he seems quite ok with the dispicable treatment his people are giving Sarah Palin.

His 'defense' on Leno was pretty tepid and perfectly senatorial.

Though Saracuda is my only choice for 2012, you can bet the G.O.P. high ups don’t care to be upstaged by her. I look for G.O.P. leaders to try anything to keep her from getting the nod. Can’t control her like so many other politicians.

Washington, both Dems and Republicans, fear a real reformer. The powers that be have their pet projects, power, and prestige (or what passes for such within D.C.) and won't give it up willingly. They will bankrupt the country to hold onto power, as has been shown with the financial debacle of Fannie/Freddie.

Obama is perfect for that crowd since they know he is a phony reformer, having already bitten the corrupt apple of earmarks. He is one of them.

That is basically what he has said.

Harping on it and crying isn’t helpful.

McCain even praised Todd saying he admired the mans moxie, that Todd had won a snow machine race finishing the final 200 mi with a broken arm.

He said it last night again.

Bingo. Lots of people from both camps are salting the fields to stop Sarah in 2012 because they dont want her coming after their gravy train.

Gov. Palin doesn't need a man to defend her."

I watched her interview on FOX the last two nights, and she doesn't need anyone to defend her. She is obviously very comfortable in her own skin, and her own clothes!;)

Cindy crossed my mind, too, for a short time. I don’t think so, though.

Cindy really really really wants to be First Lady. She’s not stupid. She knows that Sarah was the only factor in the mix that gave hubby even the slightest chance of getting the presidency.

The man can and will not defend conservatives from the liberals he so loves.

No he didn't say that. His defense was weak and tepid, blaming it all on the thousands of advisers in his campaign.

He did, but he didn’t go far enough. He should have condemned the annonymous sources and said whoever they are they should be banned from any future Republican campaigns.
