Shame on John McCain for Not Defending Sarah Palin
Pajamas Media ^ | November 12, 2008 | Melissa Clouthier

After every failed campaign, the losers analyze the defeat with the hope of discovering What Went Wrong so the mistakes aren’t repeated. It’s a process that is absolutely necessary in order to learn and succeed in the future.

When the controversy started swirling before the voting had even commenced, mostly from moderate, ostensibly intellectual corners, the criticism seemed self-serving at worst and ill-timed at best. Many writers discredited themselves. Far from being foresighted (a blind man could see the direction the McCain campaign was going), they showed themselves to be opportunists with little restraint or moral courage in the face of almost certain defeat. Rather than do what they could to possibly stop the stampede, they spooked the horses.

That was two weeks ago. Today, it’s time for rigorous examination and assessment. And boy, are the McCain staffers, unchecked by John McCain, assessing. Here are some of their conclusions: They have decided that rather than specific failed policies (can anyone, anywhere, to this day articulate McCain’s plans for the economy?) or strategies (Mr. Nice Guy) or leadership (running around like a headless chicken and suspending the campaign to participate in doomed negotiations), the real problem was Sarah Palin. No rigorous self-examination. Instead, they did what the least savory sorts do: find a scapegoat.

The man can and will not defend conservatives from the liberals he so loves.

Sarah Palin did everything in her power to get John McCain elected. That the election was even close was a testament to her connection with the voters despite the press treatment.

BUMPED for The Truth!!!

Gov. Palin doesn't need a man to defend her.

He defended Obama being a fine president despite his associations than defending Palin.

IMHO, Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guiliani, and the GOP women leaders at the RNC defended Sarah better.

THis surprises you? Why?

John McCain is a spineless man with serious character flaws. All of his heroic service for his Country aside, he has absolutely nothing going for him. He can look to his “Gang of 16” and the MSM for fawning all over him to boost his ego. The man is an embarassment to the Republican Party. He is the biggest RINO of all time.

Forget fighting fair. If Gov. Palin wants to become President Palin in 2013, then she's going to have to fight a ruthless, merciless, determined and focused campaign. We all saw how Hussein squirmed when Hillary campaigned like that against him near the end of the primary season. If Gov. Palin campaigned that way against Hussein's future record of absolute failure as a leader, she'd have no problem winning. This was the same strategy that Reagan used in 1980.

The only major mistake Gov. Palin could make would be to presume that she'd be the nominee in 2012, similar to what Hillary did at the beginning of the primary season.

Last night on Leno, McCain heaped FAR more praise on Lieberman than Sarah Palin.

Oh for God’s sake! what is he supposed to do?
Go on a 24/7 “dont pick on Sarah” tour?

He had defended her over and over.
Sarah has to take the heat herself if she is to be taken seriously as a candidate in the future.

Who the hell backs a leader that cant defend themdelves?

The silence from John McCain regarding campaign staffers savaging Sarah Palin is deafening - including his refusal to directly address the charges during his appearance on the Tonight Show.

McCain did not deserve to have Governor Plain as his running mate. She worked tirelessly (three rallies a day, all over the map!) trying to pull his sorry carcass cross the finish line, and it is because of her, and ONLY because of her, that he got some 56,000,000 votes.

Though Saracuda is my only choice for 2012, you can bet the G.O.P. high ups don’t care to be upstaged by her. I look for G.O.P. leaders to try anything to keep her from getting the nod.
Can’t control her like so many other politicians.
She is not going to go along to get along

Oh for God’s sake! what is he supposed to do?

He could have stopped the backstabbing before it even started, and then once Carl Cameron spread all of that horse hooey around on Wednesday, he could have called a press conference and said:

"Governor Palin has done everything I have asked of her during the campaign, at tremendous sacrifice to herself and her family, and I have no regrets choosing her as my running mate. Moreover, all of the rumors and gossip flying around right now are patently false, and these "anonymous" sources allegedly from within my campaign are doing their country and party no justice by engaging in this kind of behavior. The fault for Tuesday's defeat is mine, and mine alone."

But McCain didn't do that.
