Bush "I regret saying somethings I shouldn't have said"
CNN ^ | Nov 11 2008 | CNN.com

Posted on 11/12/2008 4:34:41 AM PST by rudman

"I am proud to be the commander in chief of people who are so selfless and so courageous that they would volunteer to serve our country in a time of war," he said. "I'm proud when I see people feed the hungry. I'm proud when I'm in Africa and see volunteers helping those citizens dying of HIV/AIDS."

"I remember the conversation I had with my predecessor Bill Clinton," Bush said. As a matter of fact, [I] called him yesterday and said, 'Bill, I'm getting ready to meet with the new president, and I remember how gracious you were to me. I hope I can be as gracious to President-elect Obama as you were to me.' ''

George W. Bush was a class act till the end, A man of profound thought and humility, and a Christian that we can all admire and aspire to emulate.

While there were things to disagree on during his administration - he is not perfect, and does not pretend to be - only Jesus Christ can claim perfection - he did keep America safe, even though many Americans at time did not deserve that safety.

Screw gracious. Obama is going to crap all over Bush from now until 2012. Show some backbone, Mr. President.

That is his job, i.e., keep America safe. And the idea that "many Americans at time did not deserve that safety" is detestable. Every American deserves to be defended regardless of where they stand poltically. I suggest you read the Constitution.

Nope, I feel as you do, but Bush is what he is. He believes in being decent and in respecting the office. Nothing is going to change that. We will get to see how the office can be disrespected soon enough.

He is a nice man but he forgets he is ALSO and ABOVE ALL POTUS and he doesn’t seem to have a clue about what is going on with Mr.OSAMABAMA !

No investigations needed about the financial crisis, about election fundings, about votes...
Mister OSAMABAMA made all his campaign slaming and trashing shamefully GWB...
And everything is allright because it’s “historical” for african-americans! WOW stuning!

Detestable??? Me thinks not. Traitors do NOT deserve the protection provided by a country they are trying to destroy. These are the folks being referred to. If you think these type of folks deserve the same constutional rights patriots and citizens enjoy you are on the wrong board. Try DU.

George W. Bush was a class act till the end

As someone who voted for him twice and contributed to his campaign, I wouldn't vote for him a 3rd time if he were running for dog catcher.

Bush is a new world order open border capitalist who helped engineer a 21st century global aristocracy.

I admire him for this trait of his, yet I loathe it at the same time. They stomped him into the ground while he clinged to the failed new tone idea.

I’m betting Obama does nothing but blame Bush for everything the next four years, he won’t reciprocate.

Who paid you to come here and shill the Bush legacy, Newbie?

The only criteria for POTUS is success or failure. He failed the conservative movement, he failed the republican party, and he failed this country by setting it up to endure BO.

And this humility crap is for men without principle. The way Adams treated Jefferson, the way Hoover treated FDR, and the way Ike treated Truman reflects on their seriousness as men who believed in something beyond just being civil and just getting along.

In the final analysis GWB is not a serious man. He is not a tough man. He believes in nothing but making nice. Good riddance.

Well said. I don't think any one of us would argue he isn't a good man and he loves this country. But he neglected his responsibility to lead politically. We can take the holier than thou approach and say he shouldn't be political, but now that he gave the WH to Obama, all the good he did is about to be undone.

How do you know that the phrase "“many Americans at time did not deserve that safety” means traitors? Are you a mind reader?

You seem to be interjecting yourself into this exchange. So, how many "traitors" are there in America that don't deserve protection under the Consttitution?

Listen, if you're not willing to play at the highest levels, then DON'T RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE..if it's against your conscience to fight and call your enemies on their lies..DON'T RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE. If you're not willing to follow through on what you told the people who voted for you then DON'T RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE.

Maybe he's a great Christian, but I didn't vote for him for that particular title.

...he neglected his responsibility to lead politically.

so many knives in this man's back

beginning with Algore's obstruction, Jumping Jim Jefford's betrayal, McCain.

with a majority of Dims in the senate.

l subject of countless, incessant libels and slanders from the media

He nevertheless restored the economy to reasonable principals (fault the Dim congress for the current collapse) and took the war on terror to the enemy. He restored America's prestige and made the world safe again.

So he didn't do everything you wanted? He chose his battles and did all he could.

What makes you judge and jury over which Americans deserve to be kept safe?......

President Bush may be you hero but like all of us he has fallicies. As a leader he did what he thought proper and correct when the decisions were made but that doesn’t make him infallible. That said I still prefer President Bush by large margins over the alternatives of the time, VP Gore or Senator Kerry.

I have often seen “newbies” treated with contempt on this forum and I think it’s over-the-top, knee-jerk to assume that a newbie is a troll.

I’ve been on this forum for over 6 years, having changed my screen name a couple of years ago, with the Ad Min’s permission.

Before that I lurked.

If I had posted a vanity thread, would it automatically make me suspect if I just happened to be a “newbie”?

I hope this forum doesn’t stoop to the ways and style of the DU and the HuffPost.

As for Bush-—whatever one may think of him at this hour, history will take care of in due time.

There were many variables at work in the Republican losses this time around that didn’t have “Bush’s fault” stamped on them.
