Gorelick sees major challenges for Obama administration
The Deal ^ | 11-12-08 | Gerald Magpily

Posted on 11/12/2008 8:58:31 AM PST by STARWISE

President-elect Barack Obama will be taking office in January, and his transition team will have plenty to deal with. Jamie S. Gorelick, a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP and former deputy U.S. attorney general, said at the The Deal's M&A Outlook 2009 conference on Tuesday that the president-elect will take a centrist stance on policy targeted to restart the economy.

His centrist stance can be seen in his unnatural calmness during crises of his campaigning as well as in his resistance to partisan and personal attacks on the campaign trail, Gorelick said.

She added that she has "never seen [a time] where regulation and public policy will dictate the success of deals."

So, what kind of candidates in Obama's administration does Gorelick think he is looking for?

She says people with diverse backgrounds who will challenge his views. He wants people to be able to tell him something is wrong, Gorelick continued.

On the economic front, Gorelick said the president-elect will likely have a multipronged plan to stimulate the economy.

She said he will likely have a short-term economic plan that will include tax cuts and an extension of unemployment benefits to get money in the marketplace.

In the long term, she said Obama's administration will focus on regulatory policy for issues that may address mortgage problems as well as the impact of investment banks becoming holding companies.

But whatever regulation changes are made in the Obama administration, Gorelick said, "We do not want to undermine innovation and growth." -

The president-elect will take a centrist stance on policy targeted to restart the economy.

This is mainly a marketing gimmick. No one on the left will object to BHO's plans. Anyone on the right who complains will be branded a far-right nasty and mean-spirited extremist for disagreeing with a centrist plan. The characterization is only accurate in the sense that BHO is splitting the difference between National Socialist and Soviet Socialist and planning to govern from the "center" midway between those two versions of socialism.

I’m not buying one discretionary item or spending one discretionary dollar for the next four years. Except ammo until Jan.....

We're on the same page. Starve the Beast (whether or not it's the best policy, it's the only pro-freedom policy we can boost on our own). I don't mind a stronger economic downturn if it helps to slow the spread of communism or socialism in our country. Anything I can do within the law to weaken the least qualified and most anti-American president in our history is a good thing. If the country survives the foreign dangers of the next four years, I'd like the domestic progress toward a people's utopia to be as slow as possible.

” His centrist stance can be seen in his unnatural calmness during crises of his campaigning ..”
“ He wants people to be able to tell him something is wrong,”

Gorelick sounds like she’s describing a jellyfish that’s
mentally checked out .
“Present “ Elect Obama has no history of decision making or leadership or spine or work ethic or quick reaction.
I dread the thought of this guy in a crisis.
First, he’ll go to the gym and then he’ll wait for his handlers ( The Central Committee ) to tell him what to do.
And then , he’ll shoot some hoops.
Then someone will write words for him to say...

".....His centrist stance can be seen in his unnatural calmness during crises of his campaigning..." So Saith Jamie Gorelick

"Crises" during a campaign? Is she high? And is she really allowed to remain a Lawyer in the U.S.A. ??? Wait'll she gets a cushy Cabinet Job with B. Hussein Obama, YOU KNOW that's coming. This country is really in for it for the next 4 years; hell, I'm just wondering about the next 4 months at this point. I may be forced to just go back to thinking 24 hours at a time, either that or unplug the TV.

Whew, that's a relief. For a while there, I thought he was going to just make stuff up as he goes, or fall back on dogmatic failed socialist economic hand grenades. I'm glad his previous experience and expertise in economics, finance, and market theory are going to save us.

“Centrist.” Appointees and advisors who “will challenge his views.”

The anesthetization of America continues apace.

Repeat after me: Obama is a centrist. Obama is a centrist.
