Christina Park keeps this a big secret from her husband but is not ashamed to tell all her friends: She shops at a secondhand store for clothing every day. Well, every day but Sunday, she said last week at Plato's Closet, a Skokie, Ill., franchise that she boasted of being among the first in line when it opened its doors more than two years ago.
In tough economic times, cash-strapped consumers are finding bargains at second-hand shops. MarketWatch's Jennifer Waters reports."There are so many great deals here," she said, pointing to the $8 pair of shoes she was wearing and the $12 top. In fact, her entire outfit, including jewelry and handbag, were purchased at Plato's Closet, which buys and sells slightly used clothing and accessories, mostly for girls and women 13 years old to 25 years old.

I've noticed a lot more people shopping at thrift stores lately. Another good avenue to look into for used stuff is freecycle and craigslist.

I live in them! I haven't shopped retail for 35 years!! I shopped GoodWill when they weren't popular! *grin*
They are getting more crowded though all the time, and lots of expensive cars parked outside too... prices have gone up, up , UP!!

I don’t know why anyone would ever feel ashamed about saving money, but that’s just me.

I have about given up on Ebay and try to peddle on Craigslist.
Every now and then I make a sale. Right now I am clearing out some DVD's that have been taking up space for ages. One is a boxed set never opened. I also have a vintage electronics cabinet from a long defunct TV station that someone was going to throw away. It is in very good condition but I don't really have the room. Every once in a while, someone asks about it. It is too nice to just scrap.

To REALLY combart Obama’s Marxist machine, bartering is the way to go; taxless transactions.

I have always done my shopping in thrift stores and estate sales.
I know a guy who seems a bit of a snob about things. His clothes are always very stylish and well kept. Turns out they are from Goodwill.

Interesting. She admits to being first in line years ago, when presumably the economy was in better shape, but now shops there because the economy has gone for a slide.

We go on craigslist for many things. Jobs, my husband’s truck, free stuff, etc.

Everything except her undies and stockings that my First Wife wore to her 50th class reunion last month was from eBay. Even the brooch. She was one of the best dressed women there...

I just love resale shops. I go to Village Discount all the time. I have been taking belly dance lessons and found a couple of items I’m going to use the material to make a costume for myself.

America has lots of “STUFF”.... More than any other nation
We could keep out all foreign goods for ten years and do just fine. We have tons of “STUFF” waiting to be recycled to new buyers and fixed up if needed
Might need to buy foreign oil but that’s it

I shopped GoodWill when they weren't popular! *grin*I grew up across the street from one and within a couple blocks of a Salvation Army. So, I know them well.
prices have gone up, up , UP!!
Back when I was a kid, the paperbacks cost 25¢ to 50¢. I'm afraid to see what they've gone up to.
