America Throws Long (Noonan's schoolgirl crush on Obama, Palin Derangement Syndrome continues)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 11/14/08 | Peggy "Take Me, Obama!" Noonan

Posted on 11/14/2008 12:39:49 AM PST by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

I've been traveling in New York and Texas, and it's all Obamarama all the time. People mention Sarah Palin (there was appreciative laughter the other day in Houston when a speaker said wistfully that the Alaska governor may soon discover the power of silence), and now and then President Bush (not often—people move on with a finality that is brutal), but the topic is Barack Obama. There is continuing national curiosity at and discussion of the mystery of the man—what does he think, what will he do?—coupled with a great sense of expectation, and a high sense of anxiety.

The reasons behind the preoccupation are obvious—new president, new directions—but one new aspect sharpens it. A week and a half after the election, the idea has settled in that America just threw long. People hadn't heard of Mr. Obama two years ago, they know they don't really know him now, and they just gave him the presidency. America threw long, and America is praying for a dazzling reception. People want him to catch the ball.

A week and a half after the election, the idea has settled in that America just threw long.

America threw long, and America is praying for a dazzling reception. People want him to catch the ball.

Yes, America threw long; they threw not only to a young inexperienced quarter back but to a quarter back that has never played the game before!

What is America do if he fumbles the ball in the end zone and the opposing team recovers the ball and returns it for a touch down?

You're an optimist. MY fear is that he'll be shaving points, after being paid off by the other team. ;)

You're an optimist. He misses the ball, and the crowd erupts into a massive riot...which spills out into the parking lot. Whereupon, the general thugs and imbeciles in the vicinity (who weren't actually at the game), decide to join in. The referees flee with their police escorts.

> America threw long

We’d call that the “Hail Mary Pass” or the “Hospital Pass” in New Zealand Rugby. It almost always ends up with somebody on a stretcher with broken bones. Occasionally — very rarely — it results in a brilliant play that nobody saw coming. When this happens it is an accident, a fluke.

You should not throw “Hail Mary Passes” with your country’s future wellbeing at stake. It’s bad strategy.

Possibly more accurately referred to as a "Allahu Akbar" pass, in this particular instance...? ;)

You're an optimist.

That’s true ;)

At least Obama isn’t a hypocrite. He cheers for the other team while setting on our bench.

Mr. Obama, on the other hand, has an air of natural restraint, of reserve. He’s one cool cat, perhaps even one chilly customer.

Restraint and reserve when he doesn’t have a teleprompter or earpiece.

He’s one arrogant fool.

Quiet the narcissist, too, if you’ve seen in GQ poses for the camera.

America fell for the marketing of the empty suit, aka The One.

True Love, it seems, has rendered La Noonan both lazy and dizzy. ;)

That ‘Obamarama in Texas’ comment threw me also. Unless her only Texas visit was Austin, she must have slept thru the whole thing. And Austin is an anomoly; you had to go looking real hard to find an Obama/Biden sign anywhere outside of that area. Austin is a liberal holdout in an otherwise sane state. Fortunatly the number of ‘flower children’ and ‘hippie holdouts’ is diminishing. Could be that those folk realize that high taxes do not improve your lifestyle and that money sent to the government is seldom seen again.

Remarkable.

And the Wall Street Journal pays good money for this?

As to the "long ball" bit, please consider this, Ms. Noonan: Senator "Coke-head" Obama has already recited the adhan to the New York Times, calling it the prettiest sound at sunset; how long before he bursts out at a press conference with another rendition?

America throws long...

Actually America is the deep receiver who is only now
realizing that it’s untried quarterback has thrown a
handgrenate instead of a ball...and he has just caught it.

You do realize, of course, that you're only making her heart beat all the faster...? ;)

Crazy,
Toys in the attic I am crazy,
Truly gone fishing.
They must have taken my marbles away.
Crazy, toys in the attic she is crazy.

Crazy,
Over the rainbow, I am crazy,
Bars in the window.
There must have been a door there in the wall
When I came in.
Crazy, over the rainbow she is crazy.

Glenn Beck was drooling all over her and her new book that encourages national suicide by advising conservatives to accept communism gracefully.

I don’t know what’s up with either one of them.
