Former GOP Sen. Chafee relishes Obama’s victory [sick]
The Providence Journal, Providence, RI ^ | 2008-11-16 | Edward Fitzpatrick

The cameras focused on a tearful Jesse Jackson, and the reporters seemed more interested in talking to Spike Lee, Brad Pitt and Oprah.

But at Chicago’s Grant Park, when President-elect Barack Obama declared “Change has come to America,” there was another face in the crowd that Rhode Islanders would have recognized. Former U.S. Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee, the Republican-turned-independent who campaigned for Obama, was about 20 feet from the side of the stage.

Chafee and his wife, Stephanie, waved to Obama’s brother-in-law, Craig Robinson, and his wife and two children. The Robinsons, who were on stage with Obama, used to live next to the Chafees on Barnes Street in Providence when Robinson coached men’s basketball at Brown University.

While the CNN cameras never found Chafee in the crowd, his proximity to “this defining moment” for the Democratic president-elect brought into focus Chafee’s unusual political path. At the same time, it shed light on the status of New England Republicans, an increasingly endangered species.

I burn every time I hear his name and think of all the money the RNC wasted on his campaigns.

I would say Republicans are starting to become an endangered species everywhere.

I think the only reason Lincoln was a Pube was to screw with them. Maybe that’s what true conservatives should do is to run as a lib dem, win, and then screw with the dem party.

Actually, this is perfect and quite understandable: a RINO with no principles and no core values (or the wrong core values) “relishes” the victory of an empty-suit most liberal US senator with no principles, no accomplishments, and no concrete policy positions. Borrowing a phrase from an old New Jersey marketing campaign: “Chafee and Obama... Perfect Together!”

Even RINOs will rue the day they bent over for Obama.

The only New England republicans left are the dumb and dumber RINO sisters from Maine.

In the early years John Chaffee was a solid Republican. When he went to Washington, he became a RINO. His son, on the other hand, was always a rat. He ran on his fathers coatails to get elected mayor of Warwick, and was appointed to his father’s seat in Washington. He couldn’t win an election on his own if his life depended on it.

Lincoln Chafee

Look at the Bio on this jerk. He was appointed to fathers Senate seat at his death in 1999 and won reelection, on Bush's and his father's coatails in 2000. Before this he was a Professional Farrier (Horse Shoer) after graduating from college and with his father a Senator! He is a practically a Damn Hippie, not that the Hippies would have him.

Amen! I am glad John Chaffee is not alive to see this article. He was a swamper and a RINO at the end of his career, but he would never have done something this bad.

Oh well, I can't think of a single good thing that Chafee has accomplished his entire career. It's quite fitting that one empty suit former cokehead is pleased that another empty suit former cokehead has risen to fame. They deserve each other.
