Gore doesn’t want it. He’d have to take a pay cut.

Absolutely correct. Obama is learning from the not lamented NY John in Chief, Eliot Spitzer. With the NYS Senate having a three vote GOP majority Spitzer offered the office of head of Homeland Security to GOP state senator Mike Balboni. He then poured money into Balboni’s district to elect a Dem. Obama will simply have Napolitano name some lefty Dem to replace McCain and the Dems could have their 60. That’s why TNR is so hot about this.

True, and the choose of the other idiot for VP follows the same path. Obama wants a supermajority.

He would be asked to lead the retreat from Iraq. Would he be good at that?

I heard a reporter today say that the Iraq War is basically over. The Iraqi people have begun to trust the Iraqi security force, and store owners now want dinars instead of dollars. Even if McCain had won, we would be out of there within a couple of years.

It looks like, from his potential cabinet picks, that Obama is at least aware that he knows nothing of governing. He seems to be going with Clintonista experience just about everywhere. He has to know, though, that Clinton was a doofus on defense. With McCain at the reins, Obama could make good decisions for the country that are unpopular with liberals.

It's probably just hopeful speculation, but if Obama wants to use McCain, Defense would be the place to do it.

Obama would want to use McCain for one reason. And one reason only. So as to allow Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) the right to appoint his replacement in the Senate.

If McCain wants to be SecDef, then power to him. But he should be aware that the Dems are simply using him -- for purposes of a.) forestalling a Senate filibuster and b. giving them as they dismantle our national security establishment.

Arizona has a Democrat governor. Convincing a RINO to quit the Senate and join Obama’s cabinet to be replaced by a Democrat appointed by a Democrat governor could be another way to get themselves to the magic 60 they are looking for.

The Rats want to strip Lieberman of his chairmanship, but hire McCain.

What does that tell you?

Who’s the real Rat here?

baraq would find a way to fire him for disloyalty within a week of the dimowit senator being appointed to replace him.

If Obama thinks he needs bi-partisan support on something, McCain is the wrong choice.

He "reaches across the aisle" to screw everybody on both sides.

He has the personality, stature, self-image and ultimate success probability of Napoleon.

>They want McCain’s Senate seat. McCain’s energy knowledge is non-existent

Exactly, and then fire him six months down the road. I’m convinced that Hillary will not be dumb enough to go for the Sec State job because she would be fired in less than a year as well so BO would get her off the radar for 2012.

Nope.

In GA, a republican died, and a democrat governor appointed a democrat to the remaining term. Minus one Republican, gain one Democrat.

McCain being Obama's Energy Secretary, to fight with Republicans over climate change, would be sooooo McCain.

Absolutely. AZ has a Dem governor.

I wouldn't put it past Obama to fire McCain after he resigns from the Senate and is replaced by a Dem, and put the real pick into the Cabinet after securing the Senate.

They already floated this idea with Collins and Snowe, too.
