Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area

Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.

A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.

So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.

The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

Yes, and even higher. Winds near high fuel loads increase due to the “Dresden effect.”

South of the 91 fwy 35 homes being evacuated...I thought it might jump the 91. Not good.

Homes in the Anaheim hills just south of the 91 are in big time danger right now.

Rob Lowe who is not an activist is probably going to lose his house. I hope he doesn't....now Oprah has a house here and they were stating she may lose hers...I am not so sympathetic for her home as she has 100’s of them. /sarc. I don't hope for anyone to lose their homes no matter who they are.

“Fires like this, driven by the Santa Ana’s have been occurring in So. Cal for hundreds of years, long before it was settled like it is today.”

That cannot be so. I just read on FreeRepublic that these fires are the fault of liberal environmentalists.

This time there seem to be MORE locations, than I can ever remember.

The sky in Orange County right now, is just that:

Orange.

The smoke has drifted right over the metropolitan area, and it almost looks like those Iraq oil well fire scenes. At least the worst of the smoke itself, is remaining at an altitude. For now anyway. :)

Like a midwest thunderstorm that’s about to turn to hail, but about triple that. Very disquieting.

Everything outside has a sort of yellow tint, because of the light.

Best to just ignore these people that don't realize these fires are spotting thousands of feet beyond and in front of the fire lines, being driving by fierce winds.

3500 now being evacuated from Anaheim hills, south of the 91.

KCAL 9 is reporting 25-30 homes in Anaheim Hills destroyed.

These are large, 5000 sq. ft. homes.

Fierce winds in the area, large bits of burning debris, embers, etc. flying through the air and starting new fires where it lands.

Please remove my post. I had the wrong info. Homes in Yorba Linda destroyed, NOT Anaheim Hills.

“The sky in Orange County right now, is just that:”

In Huntington Beach, over 20 miles from Yorba Linda the sky is all smoke.

I cannot remember a time with more fires at more locations than this.

I suspect arson. Is this the al Qaeda plot? It will be Barry’s deal as the investigations drag on, and on, and...?

I know exactly where these fires are.

I drove past these areas twice a day, six days a week on my way to work in the early 80’s. I used to commute from what is now “Santa Clarita” down to North Hollywood and later Pasadena. Even back then, I was thinking “One day, this is going to go up like a bomb...”

Look at that picture posted above of the “mobile home park” — and look at how close the fuel comes to the outside perimeter of that park. That’s poor fuel management right there, on a satellite image for all to see. I’m looking at it right now on Google Earth and seeing that the trees come right up to the edge of the buildings on the outside edge of the development.

That’s just begging to get burned.
