Fire Forces Evacuations, Burns Homes in Sylmar Area
Sayre Fire is near the 210 Freeway in Northern Los Angeles.
A dangerous, fast-moving brush fire in the Sylmar section of the San Fernando Valley, spread by gusting 50 mph winds has now burned at least five homes and is threatening several more, City Fire Department spokesperson Melissa Kelly said today.
So far there are no reports of injuries to residents or fire personnel, said Kelly.
The blaze ignited about 10:30 p.m. in the dry, brushy hills above 13000 W. Sayre Street near Shablow Ave, and has so far consumed more than 500 acres.

Didn't the Santa Barbara fire start around 11:00 p.m.? These are beginning to sound to me like they are deliberately being set.
yep.. all ready to go if we have to
I pinpointed the location of the origin of the fire on satellite.
Anyone know the building right in that area..it’s a big building with a parking lot. Right on the Santa Clara Truck trail...
Found a fairly typical final EIS comments & responses appendix for fuels management in southern California.
It makes for entertaining reading:
Think about this for a sec: this isn’t some huge issue. This is just something as simple as removing brush and fuel build up. Look at how many agencies are able to wave their particular regulatory authority in front of this effort.
You are so off base with your bloviating, it isn’t funny.
You consider a HOME to be part of the “fuel level” you speak of? Hundreds of HOMES have burned in these fires.
There are very high voltage power lines that bring in power from the power plants on the Columbia River in Oregon down into SoCal. Sylmar is the southern terminus of the “Pacific DC Intertie” - a pioneering very high voltage (at first, 400kV, later 500kV) DC (not AC, but for-real DC - like a car battery) transmission line.
If those transmission lines come down, LADWP is going to be short over 3,000 MW of power capacity in the blink of an eye, which cannot be replaced in your power source portfolio. You don’t have enough power transmission capacity for other sources coming into the LA basin to replace the DC Intertie.
Do a web search for “Pacific DC Intertie” to see what we’re talking about here. You know that huge power “substation” you see with all the high tension lines going in/out of it on the east side of I-5/I-210 where they come together at the north end of I-210 in Sylmar?
That’s where the 500kV DC line terminates.
It is quite the piece of electrical engineering.
I've been following this story via their live feed. Boy are their graphics annoying. Why must TV news stations cram the screen full of graphics?
The reporter will say: "If you look over here you can see..." but you can't see because the damn graphics are in the way. Grrrrrr.
That is just amazing....bet the power went out at the pumping stations....Surprised they arent drawing from pools, but that looks like a Brush Patrol rig
Appear to be using a water tender to fill the trucks.
Resident on Deodar Drive in Yorba Linda in on the air right now with KCAL 9 saying her street has been on fire for over an hour and no fire companies have responded. Flames moving down the street.
The fire is five houses away from her right now.
Produce at least 3 sources documenting your claim, please.
I wish I could help you.
3:22PM - The Anaheim Fire Department has advised that horses may be
sheltered at Rancho Del Rio Stables, 1314 Sandersen Ave, Anaheim (714) 535-3510.
3:17PM - Anaheim Fire officials continue to set up emergency shelters, and have now designated the center at the Anaheim Community Center, 250 E. Center St., as a “care and reception” center, but said no overnight housing is available there. Overnight shelter is being made available at Katella High School, 2200 E. Wagner Ave.; Anaheim High School, 811 W. Lincoln Ave.; and Loara High School, 1765 S. Euclid St. The Anaheim Fire Department estimates some 10.000 people have been evacuated from about 3,500 homes in the Anaheim Hills and Santa Ana River Canyon areas.
It has been raining heavy flakes of ash in Long Beach.
It seems not long ago there was a big fire in the Yorba Linda area, so I wonder how much fuel there is to keep it going.....??
It must be really bad breathing quality at your house, BG!
Actually.......it’s NOT! And I am NOT complaining!!
That is amazing there is no water pressure in Yorba Linda....like the anchor said...”Those folks pay an extraordinary amount of property taxes each year for fire service...”
KFI...(a bit ago)...the fire hoses melted to the streets???
Anyone have any idea of how much CO2 emissions are coming from these fires?
SB fire was reported around 5:45 pm.
Why is she still there??!!! Leave, lady, leave!!!
As to houses as fuel: If it has a shake roof, yes, it is fuel. Shake roofs are perfect tinder for wind-blown embers.
Prayers, understanding and good wishes are all that we can send you right now from here in NCal and from FR!
Global Fireball - Al Qaeda Planning New Environmental Terror Attack Forest Jihad

Extremists are threatening an environmental disaster by sparking a series of catastrophic wild fires. We first posted on this last year.
Western intelligence agencies fear that Al Qaeda terrorists are planning a global fireball in a new departure in its war on the West.
Deliberately lighting forest blazes in Europe, the US and Australia would not only stretch emergency services but leave insurance companies facing multi-billion pound damage bills as the credit crunch bites.
The fires would also create a pollution disaster, with billions tons of climate change gases escaping into the atmosphere.
The so-called forest jihad is being championed by Islamic scholars and Osama Bin Ladens terror strategists who believe setting fire to dry woodlands will produce maximum damage for minimum risk.
Western security services have picked up internet chatter which spells out in

The fire hoses melted inside that trailer park in Sylmar....after the firefighters dropped them and ran for their lives
Is it true they lost about 600 homes there today?
FOX News has the Yorba Linda Water District guy on the phone....says the pump station burned down.
There should be a water tank on the top of the hill!
According to Ken Vecchiarelli the Director Yorba Linda Water District, the Hidden Hills area of Yorba Linda has lost its water. The water pump station burned and is no longer functional. Trying to bring a replacement pump up from Laguna Hills canyon. Absolutely unbelievable and uncontrollable.
Fox is reporting 500 mobile homes gone in Sylmar. Scores of homes going up right now in Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills
Don't recall seeing any big water tanks in the hills above Yorba Linda from the 91 freeway. Apparently they were using multiple three stage pumping stations.
New starts in Loma Linda, Perris
Thanks for the heads up. I’m on vacation so I’m home in Redlands. Was wondering when we were next. Got the videocam ready
