Wisconsin gun sales skyrocket after Obama elected
The Dubuque Telegraph Herald / The Associated Press ^ | November 16, 2008

Posted on 11/16/2008 1:44:24 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Wisconsin firearms enthusiasts seem to be anticipating possible new restrictions on guns with Democrats taking control of the federal government.

Handgun purchases in Wisconsin rose 82 percent in the days before and after Barack Obama's election as president compared with the same 13 days in November last year, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis of state background checks.

Tom Smith, of Eagle, said he purchased two handguns, a .22-caliber snub nose and a .45-caliber semiautomatic, before the_election when it became clear Obama would win.

"I bought them because I was afraid they were going to be outlawed...," Smith said.

Gun owners also are worried that Obama might push for tax increases on ammunition and gun accessories.

"I went out and stocked up on ammo. I bought 20 cases of rifle ammunition," Kyle Troeger, of Muskego, said.

Calls for background checks that are required for the purchase of handguns have flooded the state agency. In the first 13 days of_the month, 2,642 background checks were requested. During the same 13 days last November, the number was 1,453, state Justice Department spokesman Bill Cosh said.

Where gun issues are in Obama's priorities is unclear, since the national campaign was dominated by issues involving the economy, energy and national security.

Obama's Web site says: "The Second_Amendment creates an individual right, and he respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport and use guns."

Sean Eaton, owner of Fletcher Arms in Waukesha, said his handgun sales have increased 30 percent to 40 percent. The rush started in the days before the election and it has not slowed down, he said.

Eaton calls Obama and Vice_President-elect Joe Biden the "most_anti-gun people ever to be in the White House."

BTW, fired expert in the Seabees.

Go SEABEES! Bravo Zulus!

Something to warm the cockles of your heart: when our son was fighting in Baqubah (NE of Baghdad) in OIF lll, they were trying to get an outpost liveable again in between going on patrols. In roars a small convoy of trucks with about a squad of men unloading all sorts of electrical equipment, generators on pallets, sheets of plywood, studding, the pile seemed endless. My son recognized a collar device being Navy (3c crow) and the NCO in charge said to just stay out of the way and started stringing wire and erecting cubicles. They were Navy Seabees.

He told one NCO that I was in the Navy and asked where they got the supplies, he said, "Ask your Dad what midnight smallstores means, he'll know". LOL! He said that they were amazing, I said you ain't tellin' me nothing, I was stationed on Kodiak, AK and we had a Seabee unit there, I know what they can do.

It still is a mystery how a Seabee unit got wind of an Army Infantry unit needing help and going to their aid.

I’ve understand that what I have on hand is valuable thus I have decided my next few seasons hunts will be with bow and muzzle loader. My Aunt from Colorado passed away a few years ago, left me her old Remington 700 deer rifle, and had old boxes of spent brass (and 2 full boxes of old Remington peters ought six ammo still new in the boxes) that each held a small hand written note where she had got her elk or mulie each season she had been hunting. 40 years of hunting, 80 rounds of the brass saved.

I think I have 39 centuries of ammo on hand at that rate !.....:o)

We also called it “com-shawing” when we needed something to finish the job. Others called it stealing. ha! Seabees don’t know the meaning of “It can’t be done”. That’s why the motto is “Can Do”.

A few years back a private contractor posted on the internet a question asking what aggregate was used for the concrete on Diego Garcia. He was given the contract to bust some up. I informed him that it was coral and we called it coralcrete. I explained that we used whatever we had on site. I told him about using some rods to hang light fixtures. I told him we didn’t have the proper clips so I had a steelworker weld rods on both sides of the light fixtures and just “laid” them in the ceiling. He told me that he had gotten the job demolishing the barracks where these were installed and they were surprised the fixtures were just “laying there” in the ceiling. He said, “Man, they lasted over 30 years.”

After Katrina I’m told the Bees had the base up and running in one day. They set up some mobile homes and were smart enough to know they needed septic tanks. Something FEMA apparently didn’t know.

A little humor, the old time Bees used to love to get the new Bees to go get them stuff like sky hooks and board stretchers.

Guess you can tell I’m proud to have served and I love and respect anyone who wears the uniform.

Would somebody tell me if pellets for rifle will slow down a burglar/etc?

They are cheaper and may be all we can afford right now.

Two web sites to keep in mind:cheaperthandirt and Aimsurplus Cheaperthandirt is a short on some items but has 9mm and .223, but is not much cheaper than anyone else. Aim doesn't carry every caliber but they are extremely reasonable on the calibers they do carry, which include 9mm and .223, .45 auto. Some of their brands are from out of the country, but some are American made. Check 'em out, I have no connection with either site, just trying to help out fellow gun enthusiasts.

Some pellet guns are as good as a .22 up close. They can kill.

The thing that really slows a crook down faster than anything is the sound. That’s why cops don’t rack their shotguns until they bust in. That sound of a pump shotgun will make you drop to your knees. I know. I saw a guy drop one night while helping my bounty hunting cousin nab a druggie. And the gun wasn’t even loaded. But he didn’t know that.

If it's one of the more potent pellet guns....yes, it will hurt like heck...and if placed correctly can kill.

On the other hand....I'd hope the bad guy wasn't armed. Cause you just might make them real mad...

Good questions that the AP reporter just couldn’t think of.

Without reading the whole article, if the gun purchaser is only buying because he's afraid they will be outlawed, it sounds like these are his first guns.

Then read the whole article......Firearm purchases by existing firearms owners are increasing due to the threat of future laws restricting such purchases.........

I like it.

No muzzle brake. I did wimp out and put a cheap recoil pad on it. Now I can shoot 40 to 60 rounds at a time out of it without causing massive bruising to my shoulder.

Good, cheap shooting at long range. I picked mine up for $79 at Dunhams Sporting Goods. (They’re back on sale now for the same price.)

My favorite ammo source, www.aimsurplus.com, has complete M91/30 sets on sale right now for $69.

I try to stay away from the steel case cartridges. The lacquer heats up and sticks in the chamber.

Ya can't beat a $80 long range high power rifle that only cost about about 20 cents per round to shoot

How many additional firearms are required to match the increased threat of confiscation?

I just bought a new DPMS .223 Panther, the person who sold it to me
was an Obama supporter and argued that Obama wasn't against guns at all.

So many people are being fooled by him, and Obama.
I also bought their last case of .45acp.
