New PBS Nova Series Exposes Old Testament Fairy Tales
Yahoo & Reuters/Hollywood Reporter ^ | 11/16/2008 | Barry Garron

Bill Maher, on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher," frequently refers to the Old Testament of the Bible as the Book of Jewish Fairy Tales.

The description might anger the pious and the fundamentalists, but guess what? Maher's close to the truth.

A visually stunning two-hour special edition of "Nova" examines decades of archaeological studies that contradict much of what is in the Bible.

It turns out idol worship was common through the reign of King David and right up to the Babylonian exile.

Any one who has read the Old Testament could have told you this.

Bottom feeders publishing drivel for other bottom feeders.

Now if one he can find a birth certificate saying “Jesus, son of Mary, father unknown”

Will find that about the same time as we find The One's birth cert........

... as is the idea that the Israelites were monotheistic following the contract made between God and Abraham. It turns out idol worship was common through the reign of King David and right up to the Babylonian exile.

This is the dumbest statement in the whole article. Of course idol worship was common during this period, most of Israel's kings were idolaters. The Old Testament is full of accounts of idolatry.

Sure, why not. They can start with that part about Muhammad never existed... Not that I believe that.

Somehow, I don’t they’ll do that, though. Something about “Behead those who insult Islam...”

All their antibiblical hatred upsets me, especially when there are many many cases of archaeology confirming the Bible.

The Liberals want to undermine God and the people of Israel all at once. This has been tried unsuccessfully over the ages by many regimes which no longer exist: The Philistines, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Ancient Greeks and Romans failed so I'm not worried that Maher, Glassman and their friends will destroy God or Israel.

BUT, in a media and educational system already saturated with atheism, they may succeed in helping turn individuals away from God and into sin...sin that destroys those mislead souls and is slowly devouring America's blessing.

So would the Fairness Doctorine grant God-fearing men air-time to retort atheism and refutations of misrepresented biblical facts on NPR and PBS?

“It turns out idol worship was common through the reign of King David and right up to the Babylonian exile.”

Umm, isn’t that WHY the Israelites were sent into exile? And David’s first wife hid his escape from Saul with...an idol.

So just what non-Bible reading idiot thinks this debunks the Bible?

....it will be a COLD DAY in HELL! Another example of Gods’ matchless Mercy....They’ve been saying God is dead for a long time. Our cry for a different result in this past election has been heard, but God has another way! The
liberals and those souls faint of heart are “having their day” but God will answer for the “righteous’!

Maher wouldn’t know the tTruth if he tripped on it Him in the light of day.

We can pray that one day his eyes will be graciously opened, and that that day come before Mr. Maher shuffles off the old mortal coil.

I am reminded often, and by this story, of the dwarves in Lewis's The Last Battle and their refusal to see that they are surrounded by bliss.

Don’t give the left ANY “benefit of the doubt” for their lies.

The Censorship Doctrine has the full intent and effect of silencing dissenting conservative viewpoints.

Don’t even conjecture that it will be, or is intended to be, applied fairly.

“I am reminded often, and by this story, of the dwarves in Lewis’s The Last Battle and their refusal to see that they are surrounded by bliss.”

Lewis’s writings are brilliant and he captures human nature very well in developing his characters. Your sharing of this quote is interesting as I have been thinking of Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia often of late, particularly the character of Edmund, who was so easily made a pawn of evil because of his desire to have something material that appealed to his appetite (Turkish Delight).

It is often so very simple that people fail to see what motivates them.

Just the latest effort to discredit the greatest book in all history. Probably with my tax dollars.

Big whoop.

You're overlooking the obvious again...
Urban highstyle atheists have invented their own religion based on worshiping dirt.

Most of these people have never read any scripture. Old or New.

“The Bible is false”

In drawing their conclusion, it is clear that “they don’t know what they believe, and believe what they don’t know.” For Christians, “we know what we believe and believe what we know.”

Absolutely.

Most of Judges, Samuel, Kings and Chronicles details the conflict between mono and polytheism in excruciating detail.

Most of the Prophets consists of denunciation of the people and the kings for their lapses back into idolatry.

In fact, probably a majority of the OT is spent on this topic.

Are they trying to prove that the Bible is false on the same type of science that they prove that evolution is real?! They are in for a real surprise when they meet “THE MAKER” on judgement day. Woe unto these godless people and their despicable claims.

He asserts that the stories, though provably false in many cases, were intended to give identity to the Israelites, a group likely made up of former Canaanites, nomads and runaway slaves.

Apparently he hasn't noticed that this is more or less what the Bible itself says about the origin of the Israelites.
