Gitmo's Underlying Problem ( Where ya gonna put the prisoners? )

President-elect Obama has promised to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo (Gitmo) Bay, Cuba even though the alternatives are unattractive. But before he shutters that facility the new president must resolve the underlying problem that made Gitmo infamous.

The problem that torpedoed Gitmo was the government's failure to identify the appropriate means to handle captured terrorists who haven't committed a "crime" but undoubtedly would if left free to roam. To what legal process are these terror suspects entitled if they are going to be detained long-term?

Otherwise, the legal issues related to Gitmo have been resolved by three Supreme Court rulings, federal laws like the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, which enacted our long-standing policy regarding treatment of detainees, and administration policies like the Department of Defense Detainee Program that prescribes the minimum standards of care for detainees in accordance with Common Article 3 to the Geneva Conventions.

Today, Gitmo is a legally accountable and a state-of-the-art detention facility. Detainees have recreation facilities, world-class medical care, culturally appropriate meals, and their cases are reviewed annually.

"Gitmo may be a black eye on our image abroad but it serves two critical functions -- it keeps the terrorist killers off our battlefields, and it keeps America's streets safer."

Watch the O-man sprinkle them in our prisons to radicalize the inmates!

Nothin quite like a ready-made army to power that domestic insurrection!

Where ya gonna put the prisoners?

In Obama's administration, of course.

God used to advise the Israelites about what to do with those they had to defeat in battle.

No, No, NO!! The problem is not where you put the prisoners, it’s what you do with these brand new “citizens” when they are set free on our streets because the US Marine who captured his sorry Islamo-fascist ass didn’t read him his Miranda Rights first...

When we collectivize, we'll either allot them a nice wide spot of (what used to be) someone else's land, or they'll live in government housing and receive welfare, of course! Your new next door neighbor:

Excellent article, excellent question!

I’d love to see the Department of Defense start construction of a new prison camp...oh, let’s say just south of Wilmington Delaware or maybe near Northbrook Illinois.

Can you imagine the outcry? It’d go something like this...

“But, but, but...Oh No, we said we wanted Guanatanamo closed...but...but...but we don’t want those prisoners kept near where we live!”.

It’d be a classic case of liberal NIMBY.

I don’t know how much petitions work but I am not going to sit by silently as Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid re-make our nation in their liberal image.

That’s why I just joined a grassroots conservative effort to
RESIST Obama’s liberal agenda. Please go here to join with me:

Every single one of his stated policy decisions has a consequence that is far worse than the issue itself.

The man has no experience, no intelligence and never seems to allow the facts to get in the way of his arrogance.
