Hard to know why Ann did that. We do know that Ann gave up her citizenship when she moved to Indonesia and married Soetoro. Indonesia did not allow dual citizenship. We also know that Ann’s mother was a bank officer who clearly knew the value of citizenship and documentation.
Ann’s exact reasons, we’ll never know. What we do know is that she obtained Certificates of Live Birth for both her children even though at least one of them was not born in Hawaii. Maybe neither were born in Hawaii.
The law has since been replaced, but the current law was not made retroactive. Married women might well give birth abroad (SEE: Canada) on a day trip to buy cheap whiskey ~ those children were always considered American citizens from birth.
It was Ann’s mother, the woman who just died, who was a bank officer when she lived in the U.S. When she moved to Hawaii I think she was only able to find work as a teller.
The reference was to Stanley’s mother. Stanley is Obama’s mother.

At first I thought this was a Red Herring that Obama had put out to show that it was a bunch of right wing crazies that would say anything to keep him from being elected. However, at this time if he were a "natural born" citizen of the United States it would be to his advantage to release all information that supports this. SOMETHING "AINT" RIGHT!
The law, in fact, requires any person visiting the US who has a baby to ADD the birth to the family's visa (or to get a visa for the kid now that "family visas" are being abolished).
American citizens are NOT required to have visas to visit the US, so technically speaking, currentlaw treats children born to illegals as non-citizens ~
In actual practice ICE simply ignores the law and treats them as citizens (which they have to assert at the age of majority).
They could all give birth abroad. Their children would all be US citizens.
Then there are folks with passports who go abroad ~
Indonesia didn't tolerate dual citizenship but then again they didn't ask, no one told, end of story.
Don't for a second believe that Indonesia is a modern state.
Frankly the United States doesn’t give a damn what Indonesia thinks about citizenship. We make our own rules and we decide whether or not those rules apply. Indonesia has sovereignty in Indonesia, not the US.
They have never stated that his original long form BC indicates he was born in Hawaii. And they have never stated that whatever Obama posted on the Internet accurately matched what was on file in their records.

I had read that when Stanley came back to Hawaii she had a hard time getting health care because she had relinquished her citizenship. There sure are a lot of rumors and misinformation swirling around the Obama family.

Barack Obama wasn’t just born in Mombasa, Kenya, he was in addition; a citizen of Great Britain and a citizen of Indonesia. That last one is important because Indonesia doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. He would have had to repudiate his U.S. citizenship (if he ever was American) in order to get an adult Indonesian passport to go travel in Pakistan, India, and the Middle East in late 1980.
The really mysterious part is this: there are no public records proving he attended Columbia University 1980-1983. He doesn’t appear in any yearbooks and no one, NO ONE, taking the required classes he would have taken during the same period of time remember him being there at all. We only have the Senator’s word that he has a diploma and graduated from Columbia.
So, how did he get into Harvard? Did powerful people pull strings? The name of a very rich Saudi Arabian prince has been linked to Barack Obama and Harvard - is that how he got in?
I hate conspiracies but this man promised transparency and has never delivered. So conspiracies have popped up everywhere like mushrooms after a fall rain. The truth would be nice. I refuse to vote for a liar, don’t want one as my President, and he has repeatedly lied, Moowie. He isn’t President until Jan. 20, 2009, so something can be done.

That’s the firt time I’ve seen this statement. Can you provide a reference?
Her two children have “Certification of Live Birth” documents, which are NOT birth certificates. These are no longer issued, terminated in 1972.
A birth certificate in Hawaii is call “Certificate of Live Birth”. The difference has to do with documentation surrounding the birth - the certificate has it and the certification does not. The certification simply says you were born, where, and identifies your parents.
Anyway, this attempt to portray Mau-Mau ridden Kenya and Suharto's Indonesia right after the takeover as modern states with normal record keeping systems is a step beyond madness.
Again, no matter what the pukes in Indonesia or Kenya thought at the time, the United States makes its OWN RULES regarding who It thinks to be a US citzen. There's absolutely nothing any other country can do about our rules.
