Post-mortem by Hispanic conservatives
The Hill ^ | 2008-11-17 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 11/19/2008 5:43:03 PM PST by rabscuttle385

A group of senior and up-and-coming Hispanic conservatives with close ties to leaders of the Republican Party will meet in the coming weeks to work out how to salvage the GOP’s electoral chances with a voting bloc that deserted them on Nov. 4.

Like many Republican groups in the aftermath of a crushing election cycle, the Hispanic conservatives plan a political post-mortem to lay bare what the party did wrong and how to fix it.

They have but two electoral "battle stances," ultimately: either on their knees, or else face down with their hindquarters submissively proffered. ;)

thats really not fair...some cases they actually stand and fight for what they believe in...

I believe the term is 'maverick'...

Firstly, Rodriquez is a liar. Secondly, did you forget your sarcasm tag? NO Immigrants were demonized. What is at issue here are illegal immigrants. Mostly what I see here on FR and among other Conservatives I know is a genuine desire to see the Government hold to the rule of law.

I am never sure what part of “illegal” is being misunderstood? Are you suggesting Americans should roll over and allow our country to be transformed into a 3rd-world crap-hole overnight? Are illegal aliens in some way special? How do you suppose those who did things legally and jumped through all the hoops to becomes citizens feel?

Betrayed.

It's even worse for the legal folks who supported the Republicans only to get stabbed in the back by McCain et al.

Only in their grotesquely overinflated sense of entitlement, and how slavishly servile "moderate" Republicans are in bowing and abasing themselves before same.

***Thanks a lot, xenophobes.***

You and BlackElk are the only “conservatives” I’ve seen use this term xenophobe to describe people that want the border and immigration laws enforced. You realize there is a difference between legal and illegal right?

You can bury your head in the sand all you want, but if the GOP continues to alienate Hispanics, it is through as a viable political party.

One half of my family is Hispanic. They are alienated by the likes of You that think the way to their hearts (and vote) is through lawlessness! They share many of the same issues as other Americans do and spit at the politicians that think giving amnesty to lawbreakers is the only issue that concerns them.

The term “RINO” was even coined by a conservative Hispanic Republican, Celeste Greig.

Celeste is also an outspoken supporter of secure borders and Proposition 187.

Thanks!
As much as the open borders gang would like to make it about discrimination of a so called minority... it’s not. It’s very simple really. If you want to come to the US, do so LEGALLY.

My family, like many in California and other states as well is made up of people and blended offspring of people who settled this country LEGALLY over the last 200 years.
My husband has an old joke - “I’m half German and half English, Irish and French - and none of those people get along!”

As to Mexican Americans I am proud to call my closest friends (and family), you are correct, they are for the most part staunchly conservative. The only ones I know who voted for Obama were college kids... they haven’t had to go out and support a family or pay taxes yet, so their idealism drives their vote.

I suspect that "robert david" is someone that got banned from the Freep back around the first of the year, a laRaza apologist. (Can't remember that Freeper name).

As for demonizing Hispanics, I don't. But there's absolutely no mistaking the pandering to them. What of the honest folks that wait in line for years to get here from all corners of the globe?  "robert david" piously talks of our "once" being a melting pot, (and by the way we're almost all immigrants or their offspring), yet conveniently ignores that we once again need an Ellis Island open to all!

And as an aside, or maybe it really isn't, how come the Mexicans get a break yet Haitians and Cubans who risk their lives to get here in converted bathtubs and '50's cars dont?!? The GOP is an absolute disgrace in the whole regard of immigration.

Testimony

May 22nd, 2007
Mr. Chairman and Members of the Subcommittee:

Thank you for the opportunity to appear today and to discuss the critical importance of Immigration Law Enforcement.

I am Rosanna Pulido, an active member of You Don’t Speak For Me. We are
American Hispanics speaking out on illegal immigration because, contrary to
popular belief, a sizable number of Latinos oppose the recent protest marches and strongly objects to illegal immigration.

But our voices have largely been muffled by the protests in Chicago , Los Angeles and other cities nationwide and by journalists and the mass media that absolutely refuses to report the story of law abiding American Hispanics. Instead, the media would rather focus on the Latinos who are breaking our laws and paint them as helpless victims.

Members of You Don’t Speak for Me American Hispanics against illegal
immigration do not want comprehensive immigration reform, but we do want
immigration law enforcement. Americans have learned that “comprehensive”
means unlimited amnesty, a greater flow of immigrants into the country and the
displacement of American workers. Anybody who can sneak into our country gets to stay in. This is not sound immigration policy.

Go Celeste! Riordan (Obama Supporter) and Michael Huffington... yep. Those two definitely deserve the term “RINO”.

Until Republicans recognize that Hispanics aren’t just a group to pander to, they won’t make any headway. Putting up a few Spanish ads on Univision and promising to further ruin schools, destroy neighborhoods, and increase unemployment (read: Amnesty) certainly won’t do it.

It’s not widely known but Celeste also convinced Tom McClintock to stay in the political arena after his 1992 Congressional loss.
