Post-mortem by Hispanic conservatives
The Hill ^ | 2008-11-17 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 11/19/2008 5:43:03 PM PST by rabscuttle385

A group of senior and up-and-coming Hispanic conservatives with close ties to leaders of the Republican Party will meet in the coming weeks to work out how to salvage the GOP’s electoral chances with a voting bloc that deserted them on Nov. 4.

Like many Republican groups in the aftermath of a crushing election cycle, the Hispanic conservatives plan a political post-mortem to lay bare what the party did wrong and how to fix it.

"Rodriguez noted conservative Hispanics felt the GOP betrayed them by demonizing immigrants — a group that was once lauded as examples of the American Dream."

Well, if they are going to lie, I won't be paying much attention to them, either.

They said they will be watching closely to see if Obama tries to tackle immigration reform in the first 100 days of his presidency.

The hispanics are really a one issue caucus - immigration reform (which means amnesty). They want the freedom to invade legally.

They are starting informally, organizers said, with fewer than 20 influential Hispanic Republicans. And they are reaching out to activists around the country, who are reeling from a party they see as turning its back on a swing constituency.

They need to organize formally reach out publicly.

Rodriguez noted conservative Hispanics felt the GOP betrayed them by demonizing immigrants — a group that was once lauded as examples of the American Dream.

I agree. As for illegal immigration, Hispanics are far from the only group - there are large numbers of illegal African, Chinese and Russian/Bosnian immigrants here, most of them on welfare and many of them with health or crime problems, but the group that many in the GOP seemed to really hate was Hispanics.

It was not our finest moment, IMHO. I hope we can offer some realistic, positive solutions to the illegal immigration problem. But foaming at the mouth about Hispanics isn't one of them.

“Rodriguez pointed to defections of Hispanic Republicans to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson’s (D) presidential campaign, like that of Lionel Sosa, a former aide to Bush who went to advise Richardson. Rodriguez noted conservative Hispanics felt the GOP betrayed them by demonizing immigrants — a group that was once lauded as examples of the American Dream.”

“Now, with President-elect Barack Obama having secured about 66 percent of the Hispanic vote to Republican John McCain’s 33 percent — and having won the electoral votes of the heavily Hispanic states of Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada — Rodriguez says “there’s still a big segment of the party that doesn’t get it.”

NO! You don’t “get it”. This is a nation of laws - if you don’t like the law you either leave or try and get it changed. The majority disagrees with your attitude that an invasion of illegal aliens is nothing more than new immigrants who should be welcomed.

The only thing that holds this nation together is respect for the law. Once the law falls apart and no one is any longer following the law - this nation will literally fly apart into violent spasms.

Just you watch.

Don’t forget male union members. I can’t remember the statistic, but they went heavily for Obama, too. And, of course, white college students of both sexes. Pretty depressing.

Supposedly this is not totally true. Not all legal hispanics support amnesty and many do not.

They are only concerned with the immigration issue since the vast majority of illegals are hispanic. If the vast majority of illegals were from Scandinavia these hispanic politicos would demand widespread arrests and mass deportations.

THis is BS

They NEVER want to talk to Hispanics like me, Director of the Illinois Minuteman Project and a Member of You don’t Speak for me.

They ignore law abiding Hispanics. The RNC only wants to speak to those who want to destroy the rule of law in America.

You've just made an airtight case to disenfranchise the electorate. Frankly, I agree. I think that since there is absolutely ZERO Constitutional support for direct presidential elective action, that the Senate should elect the President through the electoral college. F the popular vote. They've made a hash of it anyway. People should be too busy earning a living to vote for President anyway.

Supposedly this is not totally true. Not all legal hispanics support amnesty and many do not.

Then why is that virtually the only issue they talk about? Every story involving hispanics and either Bush, McCain or Obama talk about immigration reform. Are there no other issues important to the hispanic world?

You are correct. Might be interesting to see how much tension between the obama cultists and the laraza types develops.

The hispanics are really a one issue caucus -

We should not play the liberals game on this. They did it successfully with women for many years. Now we see how many strong and active conservative women there are. Hispanic "identity" politicians must not be allowed to do to Latinos what they did to Blacks. We need to go around them and appeal to the socially conservative Latino base. Yes, secure the border. However, we must encourage legal Latino immigration with vigor. Latinos, believe in God, not Allah or Darwin. They believe in hard work. And, unlike most of urban America, they have babies!

This stuff is pure bull.

McCain was the most liberal republican in the fold. He was all for amnesty. And said so during the fall campaign.

The only difference between him and obama was that obama didn’t publicly call for border enforcement.

They are both already planning amnesty legislation in congress so the dems can lock in permanent majority.

Understand that amnesty is something that more than 70% of American oppose.

I have predicted this would happen all along. Thanks a lot, xenophobes.
