“it looks like a junk mail when you get it because you probably don’t recognise the sender....the first offer you get will be a low ball one...you can go up from there.”

Bet it was first class and not junk...

Those companies were paying Mailman Steve's salary with that "junk" mail.

And let's not forget that Mailman Steve was doing a lot less work by not delivering it.

There should be an opt-out list for snail-mail. I'd sign in a heartbeat. Only mail I ever wanted, was handed out to me at mail call.

To ALL of you who don’t like the “junk” mail....it’s called CAPITALISM!!!!! And, if you don’t like it...you CAN contact the Direct Marketing Association and get off lists....

“it’s called CAPITALISM!!!!!”

No it’s not, it’s called spam... The only reason it’s allowed is because the post office likes the money.

Because my husband is a doctor, we sometimes get unsolicited magazines in stacks of six or more. They are usually crap that no one wants to read. We don’t want them at the house. He won’t take them to the office. I contacted the publishers, but they ignore me. I tried to get the post office to toss the bundles, but they said they can’t. No mailman should have to lug them around when we don’t even want them.

I just remembered.....I was told last week that all advertising that goes out and doesn’t get delivered will be returned to the sender by the POST OFFICE (I think that’s what this person said)....this is forcing the advertisers (retail, etc) to re-do their advertising...the store that told me this said they will now send out a POSTCARD, instead of a flyer.....sooo...change is coming.

As much as I don’t like junk mail, the law is the law and he should take a fall for what he did.

Junk mail is one of the vehicles of the market economy.

Again, great job Mailman Steve

My clients pay me because they have services they provide people and I say I will get them a 1-2% response rate with direct mail. My clients make their living and I make my living on having my legal mail delivered. You can throw it out if you want, but the f***ing mailman better deliver it. It's his job. It's the law. It's my livelihood.

You don't want my mail delivered to your house. Get the law changed, jerk.

I agree....there is no excuse for not delivering the mail, if he can't handle the job he needs to find one he can...
I also feel he needs to be made an example out of....Jail time do not pass go, don't collect $200 just some jail time...

Junk mail pays the P.O.'s bills....

The Direct Marketing Assn., members should have to pay the same postal rates that we common citizens pay. That would cause less junk mail and raise revenue for the Post Office.

they get a discount because of the volume..and the volume of mail from the mailer dictates the discount

To heck with their discount everybody should pay the same rate, there should be no special privilege from the government or else we are not all equal before the law.

I for one am sick and tired of having to grind up all those preapproved credit card deals and throwing the rest into the trash every week. I had to buy a paper shredder just for that and it is a vast waste of my time to boot. Can I charge anyone for all that.

Here is an idea that takes on the idea of junk mail. Never tried it myself but it seems like fun.

The guy who writes this seems like a real jerk, but the website is pretty funny.

Isn’t that what “Harry the Mailman” did in LUCIFER’S HAMMER?

I always liked that character.

I was wondering what happened to all of those credit card offers.

No wonder CitiBank is in trouble. What's in your wallet?!

I wish there was a way to opt out of snail mail spam too.
