Environmentalism is a luxury of the rich, pure and simple, and these same people preaching often live lifestyles that offset their environmentally conscience choices. For all his moralizing, Al Gore has yet to give up private jets or his huge home. And even George W. Bush’s ranch, eco-friendly as it is, is expensive. The average American could not afford to build a home like that if he wanted to.

Barack Obama and many other environmentalists claim to be for the little guy and yet promote policies that will directly harm the little guy.

Save the planet or save money? When the economy's in trouble, the answer is obvious....

are just a symptom of the huge abundance of this country which allows people to worry about things besides

food & shelter.

The house predates his presidency and is actually pretty unpretentious but undoubtedly had to be security upgraded.

I'm guessing that most average people couldn't afford to build a house with all of the environmentally friendly mechanical systems that "W" had built into his.

The Environmental movement isn’t even about saving the environment. It is all about political control, and yes it is determined to bankrupt the little guy, as that is the best way to control him.

It’s not one or the other. We certainly need to assess the cost of environmental measures, but the greenies aren’t as evil as they’re often made out to be. Ask anyone who was in Bejing for the olympics about out of control pollution.

Which naturally brings us to the real problem: This isn’t something that the USA can fix on it’s own. There are far worse offenders than us, and they need to be at least brought up to our standards before we even contemplate further measures.

The ranch in Crawford is a completely self-sustantained, off the grid, eco marvel. It cycles 25,000 gallons of rainwater, solar power, geothermal heating, grey-water usage et al. It’s hardly unpretentious from a green standpoint. It would make Ed Bagely jealous.

Exactly. And as long as we make it too expensive for companies to do business in the U.S., they will continue to ship work to places where environmental regulations are few. And the planet as a whole will be worse off.

I don’t think it’s off the grid, but it does have some pretty good “sensible” measures.

I’d love to be able to use my greywater to water the lawn, which Bush does. Geo-thermal seems to be one of the smartest things to come around in a long while, but you need some property to make it work.

Those are smart things to conserve the resources but not the insanity that envirwacko’s want to have that cost far more than they will ever save.

This is the real problem, people are confusing polution with CO2, which is an essential element of life. Its quite deliberate, too. Because America and most of the developed world had already reduced polution dramatically (you can do that when your economy has developed to the point of being able to afford it) the eco-nazis couldn’t go after that any more, so they demonized CO2, which would have the benefit (for them) of both weakening the developed economies and gaining total control over them. Just wait to see what sort polution there’ll be if economic growth is stymied and people are scrounging for a living. Environmental purity will be the last thing on their minds!
