Barack Obama’s election as president is fueling ratings among syndicated television newsmagazine shows—and they are returning the favor.
It’s a symbiosis in which shows such as “Access Hollywood” and “Entertainment Tonight” cover the Obama family like royalty, bringing back a Camelot mythology to the White House. In return, they are enjoying a ratings bump with unexpected staying power.
“We’re going to treat the Obamas like a Hollywood family,” said Rob Silverstein, executive producer of NBC Universal Television Distribution’s “Access Hollywood.”
This is the most orchestrated social experiment I ever thought I’d be forced to witness.
He’s the ‘Fresh Prince’ of Washington !
Or the Prince of Darkness, no pun intended.
People want a hero to root for. A mythic figure who will solve all their problems.
The reality is going to be crushing to those who really believe the hype. The ones who are convinced he will pay their mortgage and gas, cure AIDS, end pollution...

Now I have even less reason to watch these shows... not that I ever did before. I really couldn’t care less where Paris Hilton partied last weekend.
That said, they can craft all they want; and they will; and while the myth part, of course, is the easiest; superimposing this on Obama reality; will not be as easy as it was creating a 'Camelot' for the Kennedy's.
Meantime; I am not buying nor am I watching. . .

You know cricket, you are right. It was way easier to manipulate this image of Camelot when all people could see were three or fours channels and some magazines and newspapers.

Yes. . .and there are only so many moments that Michele can hold an ‘attractive’ look. . .when she otherwise looks angry and with a demeanor that could stop a truck in it’s tracks. Hard to merge that. . .with ‘Jackie in Camelot’

Since the commusiah won I’ve not even watched a news show. I even turn down the radio during the AP news reports when listening to Rush. The fantasy world of Scamalot will have to find somebody else to fool.
