GOP recovery: Fire Rush Limbaugh (by Morton Kondracke)
San Diego Union Tribune ^ | November 21, 2008 | MORTON KONDRACKE

Posted on 11/25/2008 7:12:54 AM PST by lowbridge

How can the Republican Party rebound? The first step would be to quit letting Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham set its agenda.

A second step would be for congressional Republicans to actually try to help President-elect Barack Obama succeed in addressing the country's dire problems – offering better ideas where appropriate and opposing just when necessary, not reflexively.

And the third – maybe the biggest one – would be for GOP governors to use their posts to show the country how conservatives can solve problems, especially the dismal state of American education and its menacing cousin, lagging American competitiveness.

If one governor would fully implement a widely circulated proposal to transform U.S. education – based on having most children graduate after the 10th grade and using the savings to pay teachers like professionals – it could serve as a model for the nation and bring the United States back to world standards.

But step 1 is to fire Limbaugh and his ilk as the intellectual bosses of the GOP.

In recent years, Republicans have let right-wing talk-show hosts whip the GOP base into frenzies – over immigration, brain-damage victim Terri Schiavo and same-sex marriage – that have branded the party as troglodyte.

The result is that the demographic groups representing the future of American politics shifted decisively to the Democratic Party in 2008 – Latinos, young people, the well-educated, moderates, working women, first-time voters, suburbanites and “seculars.”

Of course he wants them out of the picture. They are true conservatives and know what the party needs. Taking their advice would be a winning deal for Republicans and the dems are scared too death of that. They know that RINOS are a losing ticket for us and they want it to stay that way.

Ever since Mort’s wife became ill (and passed away), he has taken a liberal turn from which there has been no turning back. Mort, you are not a conservative anymore. You’re not even a Republican. Neither you nor your beltway buddy Fred Barnes can detect the real pulse of conservatives. I doubt you ever will.

I'm still waiting for the GOP to START letting Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham set its agenda.

I would bet that Limbaugh has a greater following than Kondracke does.

I would bet more favor Limbaugh on most of the major issues than favor Kondracke.

Of course but if you are a high profile politician who goes against your base’s best interests talk radio can target you and your voters will be in touch real soon.

So we save the GOP by becoming liberal democrats? I’d rather let it burn.

BTW, I forgot a step: In 2006, many of those GOP congresscritters were defeated by Dems pushing a Limbaugh, Hannity and Ingraham agenda, and their districts voted for the person they perceived as being more conservative.

So Mort...where are we losing from listening to Limbaugh, again?

Ever since Mort’s wife became ill (and passed away), he has taken a liberal turn from which there has been no turning back.

I've watched Mort since 1989. He's always been liberal except on foreign policy.

What varies over time is his view of the GOP.

Yeah, Mort. The economy had nothing to do with it.

Obama should have blown out McCain/Palin. As it was he only won by a few percentage points.

Maybe Mort can get together with Parkernoid and start their own “Know-Nothing Party”.

Ah yes, the old cut off the nose to spite the face strategy. That’ll show ‘em. Then all we have to do is be liberal, and we’ll start winning, just like the liberals.

In other words, just let us take over.

No thank you. You and your kind are morons and I don’t think you could get a cat out of a tree, much less lead this nation out of a bad economic crunch.

Oh yeah, and since when was Rush employed by the GOP.

See this jackass can’t even understand how the world works.

Mort Kondracke was always an a-hole.
Why has he suddenly come into view as a “pundit?
Riding the Obama wave as another voice in favor of
some form of the “fairness doctrine”?

Absolutely moronic. When in the past, say, three years has Rush even been happy with the Republicans, much less setting the agenda?

How do you fire a self- employed person?

I have decided instead to FIRE all the Liberal spouters that are cluttering up the airwaves.
