An immigration activist says the Republican Party lost any real chance of retaining the White House the day John McCain won the GOP primary.
William Gheen is president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC. Throughout the presidential campaign, Gheen ardently refused to support John McCain because of the Arizona senator's continued support to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.
Gheen believes McCain was counting on GOP voters to march into the booths at the last minute, hold their noses, and elect him out of fear of Obama. He notes while many Republicans reluctantly made that choice, a significant group withheld their support or voted in opposition to McCain.
"Republicans lost the White House the day John McCain won the primary, and no issue cost him more than his unpopular stance on immigration issues. John McCain is for amnesty; so is Barack Obama," he explains. "It was like we had two Democrats running on several of the issues, so the end result was that Republicans showed up less, many more voted [for a] third party, and a lot of them went ahead and voted for Obama since McCain was matching him on issues such as the bailout and illegal immigration."
Many Republicans, according to Gheen, felt more betrayed by McCain's support for amnesty than Obama's because they would expect a Democrat to take that position.
As long as we get true Conservatives voting for a group that has true Conservatives in it, I’m okay with it.
I would encourage a one party swap limit per 12 month cycle too. This re-registering on a whim to play games is destructive.
Elections should be held on one 24 hour period. Set DC as ground zero. The general election starts in that time zone at 12:01am and runs until 12:00 that midnight.
People in the Central time zone would vote at 11:01pm until 11:00pm the next night.
Mountain time zone would vote from 10:01pm until the next night at 10:00pm.
Pacific time zome would vote from 9:01pm until the next night at 9:00pm.
People in Alaska, Hawaii, or anywhere else would start their election at the same moment as the people in Washington, D.C., and run their election for 24 hours.
I would also set up a rule that after every general election, all voters would lose their registration and have to re-register before the next election.
I believe it should also be required that the person registering, should have to go into the party headquarters of the party they wist to join, to complete the task.
Motor voter should be done away with.
I also believe that absentee ballots are subject to abuse. As much as possible, we should seek to make folks vote in person.
General elections come up every four years. Surely we can remain home on that specific date to do the deed. Otherwise the ballots can be jobbed by the left.
We need to tighten up the process, so that the left can’t screw with things. I think they screwed with things plenty this election, and we should put an end to it.
As for ACORN, they shouldn’t be registering anyone.
There’s a good chance he will wreck the country permanently if he possibly can.
It’ll be hard to do when the country has already been wrecked by G.W.B. Obama has inherited a nightmare. When he says “It’s Bush’s fault”, and he will, a lot, he’ll be mostly speaking the truth.

Republicans lost the white house because many of them did not vote for McCain
Though I held my nose and voted for Sarah Palin, I think the first statement is the correct one. ANY of the other candidates (aside from Huckleberry, Giuliani and Romney) would have made better candidates AND might have won.
How about reforming the primary system so that only republicans vote for the republican candidate.
Is any progress going to happen on that front ever

I very very reluctantly voted for McC, but if he had won, he would have pushed amnesty, and the voters (with partial justification) would have blamed the R party for the economy in 2010 and 2012. With BO as POTUS, he will need some luck to save the economy.
