Richard Raddon, the director of the Los Angeles Film Festival who has been at the center of controversy ever since it was revealed almost two weeks ago that he had contributed $1,500 to the campaign to ban gay marriage in California, resigned from his post over the weekend.
The nonprofit arts organization Film Independent sponsors both the Los Angeles Film Festival, held in May, and the popular Independent Spirit awards. Raddon is a member of the Mormon Church, which actively called on its congregants to work for the passage of Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment defining marriage as only between a man and a woman. It has been estimated that Mormons gave more than $20 million in support of the recently passed ballot measure.
After Raddon's contribution was made public online, Film Independent was swamped with criticism from "No on 8" supporters both inside and outside the organization. Within days, Raddon offered to step down as festival director, but the board, which includes Don Cheadle, Forest Whitaker, Lionsgate President Tom Ortenberg and Fox Searchlight President Peter Rice, gave him a unanimous vote of confidence.
Yet, the anti-Raddon bile continued to bubble in the blogosphere, and according to one Film Independent board member, "No on 8" supporters also berated Raddon personally via phone calls and e-mails. The recriminations ultimately proved too much, and when Raddon offered to resign again, this time the board accepted.
'Profoundly sorry'
In a statement, Raddon said, "I have always held the belief that all people, no matter race, religion or sexual orientation, are entitled to equal rights. As many know, I consider myself a devout and faithful Mormon. I prefer to keep the details around my contribution through my church a private matter. But I am profoundly sorry forommunity."

The left has made how you vote, how you act, and how you think THEIR BUSINESS.
I am glad he contributed. I am deeply angry and very sad for what the facists are doing and GETTING AWAY WITH. Yes I am pissed enough for all caps. Where is the outrage in the media????????? NO WHERE!
How do they even know who donated what? What law allows anyone to know who and how much donated to any prop when it is such a small amount? These laws should be unconstitutional for just this reason.
Be proud. There's no need to apologize.
Encouraging that Cheadle and Whitaker supported him, at least.
Agreed. Those who scream tolerance have turned out not only to be the least tolerant of other peoples views, but NAZI thugs as well.
This explains why they used to be kept in mental institutions.
A long time musical director in Sacramento resigned a few weeks ago (he’s a Mormon)for donating $1000 to Yes on 8. I’ve heard they are targeting anyone who donated more than $46. Why $46, I don’t know.
They're making sure they get all the Mormons. Their outright bigotry is shocking.
Again, that's why they used to be kept in the nut houses. They're sexually AND mentally dysfunctional.
I think it is time for some reciprocal "targeting." Nothing is ever won on defense.
McCarthyism?
Nah... the Hollywood left would never be guilty of that...
I WILL donate to the next such effort. Fascism in any form cannot triumph.
Homosexual McCarthyism
Yes. It sure is. Also from the article the following comment is hopeful:
"I'm personally saddened by the outcome," said Film Independent board member Bill Condon, the writer-director of "Dreamgirls." "Someone has lost his job and possibly his livelihood because of privately held religious beliefs. I think the organization was ready to tough this out, but Rich ultimately decided it wasn't worth the cost. I'm not sure he was right."
They were willing to support him and stand up for him. He caved as did the Christian that caved to the gay lawsuit against his company EHarmony. I do not want to beat up on anyone, but I would NOT have resigned if I had their support.
I would have stood up against these fascists pigs. (I already had a gay artist teacher who is famous and could totally connect me up career wise, ask me once in the CLASSROOM to denounce my religion in front of my peers--even though I never once mentioned religion or my belief. He must have sniffed out I was a Christian. He asked me if I agreed with his horrid comments regarding Christians and the church and I said, "I do not agree. He asked me if he was right. I told him "No. You are not.") I have had that gun at my head regarding my career and I took the bullet. God's judgment concerns me more than people.
I also would die for my country and its constitution. I would die for my Lord and Savior too. Just goes to show in the end if the believers give up we all lose. This man was not able to fight for whatever reason that I do not know, but we all need to start to stand up or we are all going to go down. Just my two. Why do people cave to the wacko fascists is beyond me. I just hope this really backfires against these fascists now that he has stepped down and it has made others nervous. Hopefully it will get LOTS of attention and will turn the tide against these No on Prop 8 supporters even more. If it works out that way then I congratulate him, but more often then not they win unfortunately.
you hit the nail on the head
and evil.
Sacramento Theater Director Resigns Because Of Donation To The "Yes On 8" Campaign
These facists did nothing. Raddon did it. He lacked the courage of his conviction and resigned. Had Raddon stayed, little would have become of the babble.
More gaystapo h8!
