Don’t be too hasty. Jones is a flaming liberal and it is well known in the Washington power circles. The only person he disliked more than Bush is Rumsfeld.

There are plenty of neo-isolationist in the General ranks of all four branches of service. And amogst them, there’s a prevailing opinion that says America should almost never use force.

Jones is a horrible pick. But, one shouldn’t expect anything more (or less) from Obama.

So be it. But I have long feared Obama is an out-and-out Marxist looking to sell us out to the worst kind of anti-American scum. Naming a Marine general as national security adviser, ANY Marine general, goes a long way towards reassuring me that he won't go too far outside the mainstream of American political and strategic thinking.

You do not get to be a general in the USMC, or even a bird colonel, without being an outstanding human being in every way that really matters.

The guy was Commandant of the Corps. He gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

I think he’s a solid choice, though I know little about his political views. Much of the animosity here comes from his recent assignment training the Palestinian Authority’s security forces. A job which in the past has meant training future terrorists. That’s his boss’ policy though, and it appears he may have done a better job than some of his predecessors, though Hamas would still walk over them as they did in the West Bank.

I’m surprised Obama didn’t choose Sandy Berger.)

You’re not neurotic you’re paranoid. Like me and probably most Freepers. But just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get me. You’d be paranoid too if everyone was after you.

Seriously, call me wildly optomistic but are we having a “Nixon goes to China” or a “Clinton does welfare reform” moment here? Cabinet picks are hugely consequential and important since they are confirmed by Congrees and can only be replaced at great political expense.

“Obama’s primary international objective is to cleave Israel from the United States. Jones, along with Obama’s own Dr. Rice, is one of the most stridently anti-Israel government officials in 16 years.”

And Rahm Emanuel whose father was an Israeli freedom fighter and Rahm himself who went to be a civilian volunteer to the Israeli Defense Force during the Gulf War is Obama’s Chief of Staff?
Plus Obama went to bat for Joe Lieberman to keep him as Chair of Senate Homeland Defense Committee.
