I have never been able to decipher Peggy Noonan. This woman is as confused as Maureen Dowd.

Once upon a time, Noonan wrote speeches for Ronald Reagan. Later, she complained that trying to impress Reagan with new ideas was as difficult as fighting over the barren terrain of Verdun during World War One.

A few years passed and Noonan was complaining that no politician in the Republican Party was the equal of her beloved Ronald Reagan.

What does this woman want? Is she a Republican, a Democrat or a schizophrenic?

Like many here I initially was thrilled by her selection, especially after the convention speech, but it became apparent there wasn't much substance after the speeches. It's time for us to work on ourselves as a conservative movement, get back to basics, and develop a deeper bench of solid conservatives throughout the party, instead of building a cult of personality around "Sarah," which seems to be the norm around here.

Well, for someone who wasn't very polished, she DESTROYED Biden (oh, God, our next VP) in the VP debate. She indeed has a face for TV and instead of bashing her a little more, maybe she can polish up a bit more in four years and be a tremendous threat. I am looking forward to seeing how she grows over the next four years.

I am really not sure what you mean by "She appeals to the worst instincts of those on our side". Maybe you can expand a bit on that.

Certainly Ronald Reagan was not “bred and groomed” from birth to be President.

You ever think that that is what she was DIRECTED to do by the McCain Campaign? I would bet good money that she would run a substantially different campaign with her at the top of the ticket.

I grew up in liberal state with liberal press only and remember Reagan being called stupid dangerous conservative Christian, and Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell were going to force us all to pray. But within 10 years I believed the opposite, that Christians were more likely to support a orderly free society than the liberals, who believe in heaven on earth from human liberal intellect and absolute power. It was really libs that want to rule us, as they accused Palin+Reagan.

Now, Washington is corrupt and corrupts republicans. It is like the Ring in Lord of Rings. Sooner or later those in Washington including press worship washington/wall street as solution, including GWB who ran as one of us. Palin is threat, not from Washington.

How do you know?? The media certainly would never have reported any, and the McCain campaign pretty much stifled any such "outbursts".

My preference next presidential cycle is Jindal/Palin. Jindal HAS got the brains and the ideas, and Palin will overcome his negative geekiness with her down-home charisma. Probably the strongest ticket the Republicans can field.

If Sarah Palin had been just another vice presidential nominee, she would have disappeared into political obscurity the day after the election defeat. The media would have shut off the spotlight and her return to Alaska and appearances at governors meeting ignored.

But she is unique among vice presidential nominees. No vice presidential nominee, so far as is known has:

a) Drawn larger crowds than presidential candidates at rallies.
b) Attracted higher TV ratings for a debate than the presidential candidates.
c) Inspired a disillusioned party base to vote for a presidential nominee it distrusted.
d) Been the main reason people voted for a particular ticket.
e) Become the unofficial party leader and presidential frontrunner after a bruising defeat.
f) Been of more interest to the press and public than the actual vice president-elect.

Inside the Beltway and the Eastern Establishment, they don’t know how to deal with things when conventional wisdom fails them.

Which is why they’re clinging to the old belief that the VP dragged down or didn’t help the losing ticket, all evidence to the contrary aside.

I absolutely agree with you. There are thousands of Christian churches of hundreds of different denominations in this country. While there is general disagreement in doctrine among many of them, do you see ANY of them opening and violently fighting each other? Ronald Reagan wrote and delivered great speeches before Peggy Noonan was out of high school. Reagan's speech at the 1964 Republican convention is still worth reading today. Noonan needs to get over herself.

There must be a concerted effort starting TODAY to take back the local and state levels of the Republican Party. I am not being an alarmist here. It needs to begin today.

If there is a vacancy for City Council, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for School Board, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for City Mayor, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for a State Rep, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for the State Senate, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for a position in your state's Executive wing, i.e. Secretary of State, Attorney General, Sheriff, run for it.

If there is a vacancy for a position in your county such as County Auditor, run for it.

Bottom Line: RUN FOR AN OFFICE! WRITE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR IN YOUR LOCAL PAPERS! GET INVOLVED NOW!

If we don't get involved now, in 2012, the same LIBERAL states that had screwed up Republican Primary rules which led to the nomination of JOHN FREAKING MCCAIN will screw things up for us again!
