WASHINGTON (AFP) Former first lady Barbara Bush will spend several days at a Houston, Texas hospital, following surgery for a perforated ulcer, the hospital announced Wednesday, updating an earlier statement that she would go home Wednesday.
Bush, 83, was admitted to The Methodist Hospital Tuesday night with abdominal pains and underwent a battery of tests.
"As a result, she underwent routine, laparoscopic surgery Tuesday night to correct a perforated ulcer," hospital spokeswoman Ami Felker told AFP, adding that surgeons closed a "one-centimeter hole" in her stomach.
"She was resting comfortably Wednesday morning, and visiting with her family," she added. Bush was set to be discharged from the hospital next week, following the Thanksgiving holiday.
Feel better soon Mrs. Bush. I’d have a hole in my gut too, if I had to stand quietly and watch my son be attacked from every direction. I am not cut out for that kind of stress.
Prayers for Mrs. Bush and her family.
Modesty and beauty. How refreshing to see a real bathing beauty.
Healing prayers sent for Mrs Bush.
Holy cripes....Looks like one of the ladies in the coloring books dad always bought me of the pin up girls. He was very clever. Don’t think mom ever figured it out.
Prayers for Mrs. Bush and her family.
Best wishes from you friends on Grosse Ile, Michigan, home of the Grosse Ile Navy Air Station, your home for a short time in 1945. We remember your and GHWBush's time on our little island.
Get well soon!
Prayers for a great lady.
Prayers for the Silver Fox.
Praying for Barbara Bush, my hero.
Neither am I. Prayer bump for Mrs. Bush and family. The sheer goodness of her family stands tall and shines in the darkness.
My hero too -— love Barbara Bush and always have. When on a tour that went through Kennebunkport, ME, the tour guide pointed out that no matter what any of us thought about GHWB’s politics, he and “Bar” were two of the nicest people anyone could hope to meet and that we might see them wandering around town as they were there at the time. This was just a couple of years ago.
No luck finding them, but I sure looked around!!!
Hope Mrs. Bush’s recovery is swift and she is soon home — ulcers are no fun, for sure!
Amen.

I think that is still true today of Houston where they now live.
Ditter may have some input on seeing them out and about the area.
So very beautiful. The President has her eyes.
PRAYERS UP!!!!
Prayers for Barbara.
I have seen Mr GHW Bush several times at Fuzzy’s Pizza parlor just around the corner. They are both quiet unassuming people and move around this part of Houston with no fanfare. The only way you know they are around is when you see the SS men with wires coming out of their ears.
The last time we saw them at the pizza parlor I did not introduce my grandson to Mr. Bush and I regret it because I am sure he would have been glad to shake the boys hand.
