How religion guides Palin
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 6, 2008 | Manya A. Brachear

When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin promised to lead the nation with a "servant's heart," evangelical Christians immediately recognized her as one of their own.

Whether before an audience of ministry students or on a national stage at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, the 44-year-old Palin speaks fluently about her faith, striking chords with phrases that evoke Christian virtue. Palin has called on people to pray for the cooperation necessary to build a natural gas pipeline across Alaska, labeled the U.S. mission in Iraq a "task that is from God" and argued that students should be taught the creation account from Genesis in public schools.

In a race where both presidential candidates, Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain, have tried to court religious voting blocs, Palin's introduction to the Republican ticket adds another dimension.

Just as McCain's politics are largely shaped by his experience as a prisoner of war and Obama's by his embrace of his racial identity, Palin's approach has been shaped by her relationship with God. Palin sees her government work as paling in comparison to a greater mission.

"I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded," she said in June to ministry students at her former church. "But really, all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

This is the one area where I have no beef with Governor Palin at all. She lives her faith, and it’s obviously a genuine and loving faith.

Palin...labeled the U.S. mission in Iraq a "task that is from God"

Dammit, Manya, you ignorant, misguided Liberal. She said we should pray that the U.S. mission in Iraq is a task that is from God.

At least she only had one opinion on the war whereas your boy was for the war, against the war, and present on the war.

Gad, how I hate these worthless sacks of carp.

Yeah. Authenticity.

Many of us heard 'servant's heart' and knew exactly what she meant & what she's about.

God bless her.

Amazing. An article from a mainstream newspaper that respectfully treats Palin’s faith in a very positive way, and forgoes the usual depiction of evangelical Christians as knuckle-dragging troglodytes or buffoons.

The Chicago Tribune, no less! Kudos to the author.

Well, of course, she said that we should pray that the Iraq mission is from God. But you can’t entirely blame this jerk for thinking otherwise, since every news agency in creation has repeated the lie numerous times.

Also, she did say “that students should be taught the creation account from Genesis in public schools.” But she did NOT say that it should be imposed or that Darwinian Evolution should be outlawed.

In fact, she said what any sensible person would say, that the government and the courts should not IMPOSE a single explanation on the schools, and also that the courts had no constitutional authority to outlaw all religion (except Islam) from the schools.

I’m surprised that this jerk didn’t repeat the lie that she tried to impose censorship on the public libraries. No, again, she sensibly questioned why the libraries should push books like “Heather has two Mommies” or “My Daddy’s Roommate,” but virtually outlaw “Huck Finn.”

One of the reasons the left hates SP is that she can BE genuine. Libs can’t be genuine about what they believe or they’d never get elected.

A demonstration of your faith is better than a definition.

Palin has called on people to pray for the cooperation necessary to build a natural gas pipeline across Alaska, labeled the U.S. mission in Iraq a "task that is from God" and argued that students should be taught the creation account from Genesis in public schools.

Why am I reminded of that quote: "Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?"

Governor Palin's actual words in context (nearly the opposite of the meaning in the partial quote): "Also, (pray) for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God." I'm sure everyone who takes that quote out of context knows better - they are just willing to lie so they can "win" by any means necessary.

Their problem with Governor Palin is that she believes what a Christian is supposed to believe, there is no way to claim she is a hypocrite, and she has the charisma and talent to keep our country free.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

She’s a very brave woman; she has suffered the smears and whack jobs from MSM and the Left that will await any of us.

IMHO Sarah Palin knows, like most disciples, that a life without Jesus is a life in the toilet. We have found a treasure: eternal joy, peace and a strength that can only come from God.

Too bad the liberals are too busy swishing around in the toilet bowl (batting at turds) to understand this.

The churches she has attended also embrace dispensation, a theological system that emphasizes man's dominion over the earth and the end times—theology that could potentially shape a believer's environmental and foreign policies.

What an oatmeal-for-brains. What sort of environmental policies would be shaped by one's end times theology?

Sarah Palins’ relationship with God is the crux of why not just the left, but also the Republican party elites hate her. It’s a purely instinctive thing. The elites want to pretend that their governing principles somehow derive from their own inherent wisdom, and that reliance on God is OK for some, but not really necessary for proper governance. This world view is just as prevalent with Republicans as with the left, and is why we see so many articles by ‘conservatives’ that we have to be careful not to let the republican party be held hostage to the fundamentalists. They say this will make Republicans more electable, but the truth is that they just don’t really trust God. At least the left is honest about their hatred of God.
