Lucky for them, they did not have to see if the shotgun worked.

It’s been my experience that when you level a shotgun at someone, they take it on faith that it is fully functional and loaded.

Mr. Osborne had to punch him once and hit him twice with the gun. One strike with the gun came when Rutledge insisted on lighting up a cigarette while waiting on police to arrive, he said.LOL! He has far more patience than I do. I might have just shot him when he reached for the smokes, you never know, it might have been a small pistol he was reaching for.

The way I was taught, you blast him with the gun first, ask questions later. For good measure, put a knife in his hand and tell everyone he came at you - until your dying day.

The burgler learned how the term “full choke” applies to a shot gun.

Great story! Let’s hope this gets out enough to discourage any future issues for these people.

One strike with the gun came when Rutledge insisted on lighting up a cigarette while waiting on police to arrive, he said. Let's see. You are being held at gun point, the police are one their way and you light up against the wishes of the person holding you at gun point.
Dim does not even begin to describe this person.

It would be really neat if someone bought them a new shotgun, just to be sure...
They are not that expensive...I saw some 12 ga. Mossbergs going for about $225...
The pump action alone would be enough to mess the drawers of a burgler in a dark house they know they shouldn’t be in...
