Mumbai attacks: the terrorists' tactics
Telegraph.co.uk ^ | 28 Nov 2008 | Amir Taheri

The Army of Muhammad is back. This was the message buzzing in radical Islamist circles yesterday as the world tried to absorb the shock of the terrorist attacks in Bombay, India's economic capital.

While it is not yet clear which group was behind the attacks, it looks as if the perpetrators were trying to imitate the tactic of ghazwa, used by the Prophet against Meccan caravans in his decade-long campaign to seize control of the city.

The tactic consists of surprise no-holds-barred attacks simultaneously launched against a caravan or settlement with the aim of demoralising the enemy and hastening his capitulation.

The Bombay attacks differed from previous terror operations in India in a number of ways. In the past, one approach had been to place explosive-packed devices in crowded places with the aim of killing large numbers at random. Another was suicide attacks on specific targets by lone "volunteers for martyrdom".

This time, however, the approach was "symphonic", in the sense that it involved different types of operations blended together.

Involved in the operations were men who had placed explosives at selected points. But there were also gunmen operating in classic military style by seizing control of territory at symbolically significant locations along with hostages. Then there were militants prepared to kill, and be killed, in grenade attacks against security forces.

Whoever designed the operations had another important Islamic tactic in mind: tabarra or exoneration.

“When will the WORLD (the civilized part of it) unite to exterminate these filthy Islamic fascists?”

Will they?

Maybe when the perspective of “they” becomes “we”.

Don't Hope for any leadership from The Messiah on this issue.

I'm sure he'll agree to meet with the terrorist leader back in Pakistan, with no conditions.

>>>>>>with the aim of demoralising the enemy and hastening his capitulation. <<<<<<<

India has been fighting the satanic Muslims since Mohammad walked the earth.

I don’t see them capitulating any time soon.

That “army” has not been doing so well against real armies of the free peoples, so they think they are hotel sierra waging war against hotels, passenger terminals, and hot dog vendors.
Sad, Haji. History dismisses you.

The Army of Muhammad is back.

Armies fight soldiers. These vermin wage war against defenseless civilians, innocent women and children, tourists on vacation, etc. Calling them an "army" is an insult to anyone whoever fought in a real army.

While I agree with you that the west is pussified, this is India’s problem and they will have to deal with it. Our hands are full enough.

I think you need to qualify your statement, that does not apply to the young warriors crawling through darkened hallways to confront an enemy that hides among civilians. The US (and many other countries also has such warriors) also has many of these young people.

The problem is, many in government do not have the moral courage to deal effectively with people who use terrorism as a tactic. As long as our warriors are not (pacified) there is still hope. It is a tragedy that young warriors have to die because of the cowardice and stupidity of their prospective governments.

The enemy, though, through decades of propaganda, has infiltrated our military at the policy making level and brainwashed them and our political leaders into establishing contradictory messages to the troops - all in the name of “multicultural understanding” and “social justice (beware those double speak terms). Fear that putting panties on the head of the mass murderers of innocents will get the soldiers courtmarshalled or sentenced to prison or worse ties the hands are ties behind their backs. The command in chief and his military needs to clean shop. Will Obama be the man for that job?

I don’t think so, but I do believe he may be a necessary conduit for what is to come. I believe that things (that can’t be stopped) are in motion that have to reach a conclusion. If we have enough people who value duty and honor, we will see a renewal (even though a great struggle is probably unavoidable) if not we will venture into a very dark time.

Amir Taheri is a treasure, as always.

Theoretically, the tactic could be used in any city, from Bombay to New York, passing through London and Paris.

If only this could get imprinted onto our new president's teleprompter.

One of the targets reported attacked was a women and children’s hospital. I shudder to think of Islamic terrorists attacking hospitals or elementary schools in the US, but they certainly are capable of doing so.

The so-called "leadership" (I only partially include our president here) of the West is too pussified to do anything.

But we still have too many traitors, fellow-travelers, idiots, cowards and pissants (ahem, but not you, pissant) among us.
