I need to purchase handguns for my family. I prefer private sales. I need a plinger like a 22 and something that is protection. The protection would come in two sizes, one that a full grown adult could use, and one that I could use. I have problems with my hands and need something that won't kick so I dont drop the gun. Something that will fit in the Cabelas purse holster. Are ther also between seat car holsters?

Well, a good idea would be to join the NRA and then find a place where you can be trained by an instructor. Some ranges have “gun days” where you can become acquainted with different types of handguns be it a revolver or semi auto pistol. A good instructor will help you choose what works best for you and most importantly, what you are comfortable with.

I can recommend the Ruger Mark III as a “plinker”. I have a Ruger Mark I that I bought over 30 years ago and it’s still running great.
Glock 19. It’s the slightly smaller 9mm. 15 round clip. If that isn’t enough, you have more trouble than you can handle anyway. Or a .38 Smith & Wes (revolver) Either are great guns.
Here in Michigan all hand guns must be registered, no matter where you buy it. Better chech with a local NRA guy to be sure in your area. Excellant choice to be armed.
For the kick, use two hands, it will do for most pistols. 9mm is mild so you can fire it twice, which you will need to since it isn’t a stopper like a 45.

Where would I look for local training? NRA? I tried to local range but they were not open to it. The local gun shop does not train.

...you didn’t state your sex but from the purse comment I gather you’re a woman....in that case, you may like to look at a Smith and Wesson .38 Ladysmith model....it’s light and designed to fit a woman’s hand....fits my wife’s hand like a glove.
Then you’re looking at needing something without a thumb safety, so some sort of revolver or one of the new generation polymer pistols, like a Glock or Springfield XD.
Look at the XD in 9mm. You can get it in full-size and subcompact (micro) size, and the magazines interchange.
I suspect that the best thing for you to do is have a firing range instructor look at your physical problems and provide a recommendation. We can’t do that very well here. Best!
I know it’s a Ruger and think it’s a .38, it’s hard to get at the moment because of its popularity.
I would then probably recommend a revolver like a .38. You might have problems loading a semi-auto magazine since it takes some effort to push in the rounds with your thumb. I really can’t say for sure, but that is my guess. You can always go to a dealer and look at guns and get a feel for what works and then seek out a private sale for the same or similar gun.
But here they need to give the state a copy and the state runs the check
