I am Buying Handguns and Need Some Recomendations
11.30.06 | chickensoup

I need to purchase handguns for my family. I prefer private sales. I need a plinger like a 22 and something that is protection. The protection would come in two sizes, one that a full grown adult could use, and one that I could use. I have problems with my hands and need something that won't kick so I dont drop the gun. Something that will fit in the Cabelas purse holster. Are ther also between seat car holsters?

I prefer private sales.

What do you mean by private?

Excuse the question, but what is the problem with your hands? Do you have unusually small hands or are they very weak or both?

There were a couple of good threads here regarding this sort of question - but for me, I carry a .32 Beretta Tomcat with Glaser Safeties and Hydra-shocks (alternating) ... someone here said good handguns were Tarus and Glock in either 9mm or .40cal .... if you live in an apartment my gun instructor said that 12ga pump with #6 is a good stopper and won’t penetrate apartment walls ....

Hope this helped.

In my state if you purchase from a gunshop, which I have done once for my son’s hunting gun, one has to fill in state paperwork which is supposed to be destroyed after a background check.

Recently I read, here on FR that there are states who are actually keeping the supposedly destroyed information. I would not put it past the leftists running the government in my state.

Private sales are not governed by state guidelines.

Will you be unable to pass the NICS check? Are you not a legal resident? Not sure why you are limiting yourself to only private sales.

Ruger .22 revolvers are very well built, a .40 or .38 revolver
is best for low recoil.

People with small hands cannot comfortably hold a double stack 9mm handle—such as a Glock or Berretta. If you can’t hold the gun comfortably, you can’t shoot it accurately.

About the most swat you can get that you can shoot with small hands is a Walther PPK 380 (or a Makarov 9 mm). The round is a 9 x 17 mm; the larger 9’s, the Glocks and Beretta’s shoot a 9 x 19 mm round. You can also consider a much less expensive Makarov which shoots a 9 x 18 round.

No joint in bottom of both thumbs. Hurts and impairs grip.

For full size protective duty 1911 style .45 ACP is my all time favorite . That said I am still am advocate of double action revolvers for most users and especially people with smaller hands . A .22 can serve as protection as well as a plinker , the very best gun , is the one you have with you . Training and practice is a must .
