Gay Marriage and a Moral Minority (Why did black women support Prop 8?)
nytimes.com ^ | November 29, 2008 | CHARLES M. BLOW

Posted on 11/29/2008 4:31:11 PM PST by Free ThinkerNY

We now know that blacks probably didn’t tip the balance for Proposition 8. Myth busted. However, the fact remains that a strikingly high percentage of blacks said they voted to ban same-sex marriage in California. Why?

There was one very telling (and virtually ignored) statistic in CNN’s exit poll data that may shed some light: There were far more black women than black men, and a higher percentage of them said that they voted for the measure than the men. How wide was the gap? According to the exit poll, 70 percent of all blacks said that they voted for the proposition. But 75 percent of black women did. There weren’t enough black men in the survey to provide a reliable percentage for them. However, one can mathematically deduce that of the raw number of survey respondents, nearly twice as many black women said that they voted for it than black men.

No you DON'T know that and it's only a myth to the point where the liberal media wants and needs it to be.

Sneaky attempt to sneak in a fallacy through the back door.

Charles blames black church going women.

This high rate of church attendance by blacks informs a very conservative moral view. While blacks vote overwhelmingly Democratic, an analysis of three years of national data from Gallup polls reveals that their views on moral issues are virtually indistinguishable from those of Republicans. Let’s just call them Afropublicrats.

Preview to tomorrow’s NYT headline: Why did blacks vote predominantly for Obama?

That’s right, that isn’t important because the result was “good.”

What is this called, cognitive dissonance? The good vote was good, but the bad vote by the good, not so good, and uh, uh, uh.

Yeah, I can see where they would have problems with homomarriage.

A guy named Charles Blow probably shouldn't be writing an article which questions "Why?" blacks overwhelmingly supported an anti-gay proposition in California. Ya know? First off, white liberals don't really understand the black sub-culture. They only think that blacks agree with their philosophy from A to Z. They don't.

Black liberals have their own agenda, and are simply aligned with white liberals because white liberals support and enable their victim/grievance policies.

What white liberals don't understand is that blacks have never gotten on board with the rest of the radical left's agenda. It might be hard for some folks to get their head around, but by and large, blacks are very conservative, culturally speaking.

When it comes to gay marriage, homosexuality, and the gay agenda in general, blacks have a fairly traditional mindset, as a group.

Save the Whales? Global Warming? Radical Environmentalism?, Euro-worship?, Obeisance to the UN? Most black libs couldn't give a flying rip about these things, but don't resist them either. It's kinda what their white brothers do, and that's alright as long as they get their pie.

Framing it as a "health" issue? ROFLMAO! No lifestyle is more hazardous to one's physical and mental well-being than the gay lifestyle. Charles Blow is correct about one thing though: it can't be sold on moral grounds.

The article spins the truth; homomarriage will solve the problem/everybody wins!
Pure BS!

Charles Blow, author, has his facts lined up correctly. At minimum, 15-20 years of data supports the points he has made. Well done.

However, the fly in the ointment: "So pitch it as a health issue. The more open blacks are to the idea of homosexuality, the more likely black men would be to discuss their sexual orientations and sexual histories.

He just shot himself in the foot. He just undercut his own points. Selling it as a health issue will absolutely NOT work, given the points he's already made. And this leads me to conclude, that Mr. Blow isn't so big on gay marriage himself, actually. He writes well, his research is solid on those specific issues. But his conclusion? Verrrrrrrry interesting,.....

Even liberal "sexually open" women will NOT be inclined to support the "health aspect" as it benefits them not at all. In fact, most will not be inclined to have sex with a bi, and mostly likely would tell the dude to "go to hell-ens house".

It doesn’t matter who voted how, for the CA Supremes are dying to strike this down and presumably will do so “sooner, rather than later” in the words of one of their idols, “Bill” Clinton.

God forbid we call them Christian women because universal, godly truth from the Bible trumps all other factors.

Sadly, it is far too true than should ever be, that too few black women live their life in a real marriage. Look at the illegitimacy rate among blacks in the big cities.

Black women actually value true marriage, for it is the one thing that will separate their lives from the failures.

That could teach a LOT of us some lessons.
