Publishers bet big on 'Obama as hero'
Yahoo! News / The Politico ^ | November 29, 2008 | David Paul Kuhn

The publishing industry is betting on Barack Obama like no president in decades. Since Election Day alone, more than half a dozen book deals have been signed to exploit Obamania.

Two dozen books in the works range from the serious to the silly. There are retrospective ticktocks on how Obama won office and prospective looks at his first year in the White House. There is a biography on Obama’s father, a compilation of essays on Obama and race, and others tilting toward the celebratory with photographic montages. There are children’s books, of course, and a style guide on Michelle Obama, framing the down-to-earth future first lady as a latter-day Jackie Onassis.

With few exceptions, the books share a tone of celebration and optimism, and a view of Obama as hero. To borrow from the president-elect, perhaps some hope-mongering is afoot. In contrast, President George W. Bush, who reportedly is having difficulty finding a publisher for a book he hopes to write, has been savaged in many recent tomes.

“The American reading public appreciates great stories. They like heroes, and they like villains,” said Gail Ross, a top political literary agent. As for Obama, “at least for now, he's a hero. Bush books worked when he became a villain.”

Tim Duggan, a vice president and executive editor at HarperCollins, said that the Obama book boom reflects the president-elect’s “honeymoon period.”

“No matter what the state of the book industry, or the state of the economy, the idea of the new African American president coming into office is exciting,” said Duggan, who is editing a retrospective on the 2008 campaign by reporters John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

“Is it just me, or is this starting to border on the sacreligious? “

To whom? I think members of the Obama Church think this is fine.

Remember what happened to Herod when the crowds said “It is the voice of a god and not a man.”

Acts 12:22

A sticky end, to be sure — but God is not mocked.

I have also purchased the OBAMA GARBAGE BAGS—Extra flimsy. They work well for the cat box . . . um daily clearing.

GIve it a little time. They are high now. In time this will hopefully wear off. The libs and brainwashed kids that think all white people are racists are still stunned the United States actually nominated a black man as their president. Remember these are the same people that think George Bush should be in jail for going to war and that everyone is racists except Democrats--LOL. WHen they find out Obama is just a man (as Republicans have treated him)--an inexperienced one--and not the great liberal savior and will continue as George Bush regarding the war on Islamic terrorists (as at this point to do otherwise would be gross negligence--especially after the attacks in India), they will despise him.

Obama remorse will set in eventually. They built him. They will tear him down.

Sounds like a work of science fiction...

If that be the case, then — I shouldn’t want to be His Excellency right now. God is not mocked.

I think you are right. The earlier article on FR about BO getting a facial tic should just be the beginning. Great point about God not being mocked.
