Publishers bet big on 'Obama as hero'
Yahoo! News / The Politico ^ | November 29, 2008 | David Paul Kuhn

The publishing industry is betting on Barack Obama like no president in decades. Since Election Day alone, more than half a dozen book deals have been signed to exploit Obamania.

Two dozen books in the works range from the serious to the silly. There are retrospective ticktocks on how Obama won office and prospective looks at his first year in the White House. There is a biography on Obama’s father, a compilation of essays on Obama and race, and others tilting toward the celebratory with photographic montages. There are children’s books, of course, and a style guide on Michelle Obama, framing the down-to-earth future first lady as a latter-day Jackie Onassis.

With few exceptions, the books share a tone of celebration and optimism, and a view of Obama as hero. To borrow from the president-elect, perhaps some hope-mongering is afoot. In contrast, President George W. Bush, who reportedly is having difficulty finding a publisher for a book he hopes to write, has been savaged in many recent tomes.

“The American reading public appreciates great stories. They like heroes, and they like villains,” said Gail Ross, a top political literary agent. As for Obama, “at least for now, he's a hero. Bush books worked when he became a villain.”

Tim Duggan, a vice president and executive editor at HarperCollins, said that the Obama book boom reflects the president-elect’s “honeymoon period.”

“No matter what the state of the book industry, or the state of the economy, the idea of the new African American president coming into office is exciting,” said Duggan, who is editing a retrospective on the 2008 campaign by reporters John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.

The books will be on the bargain rack within six months to a year. Once the magic is gone a new spat of books—denouncing Obama will come out. The sheeple will soon discover he has feet of clay. Corruption and scandal will mark his rule, mark my words. He will not finish his term in office—he will be impeached for corruption before 2012. He will become a victim of his own high expectations.

If we were talking about conservatives I would agree. What I think you miss is the sheer stupidity and wilful blindness of leftists. They prattle on about how Bush is the real threat and terrorists are nothing to worry about. They have done so for eight years or more. I am somewhat more cynical as to the depth of their hypocrisy and their stupidity.

All glory is fleeting. This fraud is going to fall hard and the world will be watching. It’s going to make all of these Obama kool-aid drinkers look like the total fools they are.

That is the perfect comment on the whole situation. Thank you for stating it so well!

Pod people don’t read. Unions will be forced to buy obama book tripe by the truckload and store them in warehouses, next to Hillary’s tome and republican absentee ballots.

A thousand years from now, archeologists will unearth millions of obama books and speculate they were stored as offerings to some volcano god.

Publishers are betting big that Obama supporters are going to buy books about Obama. I predict that they are going to lose big time. Have they listened to any of the interviews with Obama supporters over the past 18 months? These people are dumb as rocks. These people don’t buy books. It’s that simple.

The books better have a lot of pictures and small words as that is all Obamas followers understand.

"WHen they find out Obama is just a man (as Republicans have treated him)--an inexperienced one--and not the great liberal savior and will continue as George Bush regarding the war on Islamic terrorists (as at this point to do otherwise would be gross negligence--especially after the attacks in India), they will despise him.
Obama remorse will set in eventually. They built him. They will tear him down."

Good analysis. Jared Taylor wrote more about that in his prescient article here:
http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2008/07/why_obama_will_1.php
(Warning! controversial source. Sorry, can't post a direct link, but the cut 'n' paste is worth it!)

My thoughts:
Eventually, all of Obama's failures will be blamed upon one factor:
WHITE RACISM.

What they fail to realize is that...while the dead do vote, and the homeless and druggies will vote as often as they’re paid to, none of them will buy books.

You overestimate these people, rocks are NOT totally useless! Rocks are in fact mankind’s ancient source of tools, building materials etc. Obama supporters “fail to rise to the level” of rocks.
