Over 40 Murders Reported this Week

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico - New details on a deadly discovery across the border from El Paso. This morning police in Ciudad Juarez say at least 12 masked gun men opened fire inside an upscale seafood restaurant and killed at least eight people. The attack comes a day after seven men were found executed in a school soccer field in an upper class neighborhood in Juarez.

In all, 40 murders were reported over the holiday week along the border near El Paso. Police say the men were armed with AK-47 and fired off more than 100 rounds.

Tijuana is surreal these days. I saw an article here on FR over the weekend that said there were 300 of these drug related killings there since September with over 4000 nationwide this year. That so little press exists is amazing--I guess not when one considers the corrupt state of the MSM. *sigh*

I've heard there are a lot more hotels and the shopping area across from the hotels has greatly enlarged.
We use to go down for a week in Dec/Jan and it was a nice, low cost place to enjoy the sun and sleep under a thatched roof cabana.

The thing that gets me, and what seems to be the glaring Elephant-in-the-Room, is the river of unaccounted for money from the drug trade. We’re pretty sure it’s corrupting the Mexican gov’t. Any ideas how its corrupting ours, for it surely must be. It would be a given that law enforcement is being bought off. How would it extend into the political arena? Killing projects that might actually fight the drug traffic?
My brother was a cop back in the ‘70s and told me about a plan two New York cops had to end the drug trade at half the cost of drug war : simply buy up the entire world’s supply. Even with jacking the prices up, the drug prices would get to be too high for the distribution network to support and we’d have a true market value. Then all the dope-heads would have to clean up. Maybe that’s too simplistic. Probably so.

My inlaws had a condo there back in the 80s. We got to go several times, it was a great spot. I doubt I would feel as comfortable there now, but it was a super place for an inexpensive vacation. It was funny because we barely spoke Spanish, and at least back then most of the tourists were not American (mostly wealthy Mexicans) and so we could go days without hearing any English! But, we managed very well in spite of it.

I speak high school Spanish (not very well) but always got along well anywhere we went. We flew Mexicana once from Mexico city to Ixtapa and the flight attendants fired champagne corks down the isle and pour drinks for everybody on the plane. There were about a dozen half-used bottles left when we arrived and we were allowed to take the bottle and little plastic champagne glass off the plane when we arrived.
Our best flying experience was Huatulco to Oaxaca in an Air Liberdat DC-3. Very well maintained craft but we flew very low and slow, through the mountain passes rather than over them.

Could be we let them fight among themselves than take on those left standing!

It isn't staying in Tijuana. My son speaks fluent Spanish and did most of the real estate business in a Spanish speaking office with mostly Spanish speaking customers. Last February, a couple people he knew pulled up in his condo parking lot. They were blocked in by some Mexican mafia types. The driver was shot 100 feet from my son's front door. The passenger was beaten and dropped off about a mile away. The really bad news is that it was mistaken identity. The guy who was killed was not the intended target. It's bad news and getting worse.

Understood and agreed. Although you did not say where that shooting occurred, these thugs will cross the border as need be to protect their trade/take out the competition. The sheer numbers and silence of the press is hard to fathom. And it seems only to be getting worse...

The shooting occurred in the Eastlake community of Chula Vista. It's about 10 miles north of Tijuana.

Ditto: Mexicana and Aeromexico have always been outstanding on service, and a pleasure to fly. Now, the baggage handlers and airport crew, that's a different matter. I was once bumped up to 1st Class (billionaire class) on a Mexicana flight from Mexico City to Guadalajara, and nothing before or since could possibly compare to it.

Here is a link to the story about the shooting. I read the article before traveling down to San Diego to pick my son up on Feb 14th. The incident occurred on Feb 7th. The picture is more relevant to me after physically visiting the location. The photographer's point of view was near the foot of the steps leading up to my son's condo unit.

I think many of the border towns are now off limits to US military personnel. Boys Town in Acuna was on the list.

My plan would have been simpler: have some undercover agents acting as wholesale suppliers. After building up volume, introduce shipments cut with some slow-acting toxic substance (polonium sounds right).

Thanks, I know Chula Vista. I spent 11 years in San Diego (1982 — 1993) and made many day trips to Tijuana, Rosarita Beach and Ensenada which makes these articles all the more impactful.
