Barack Obama to buy rare £20,000 gold ring for his wife.
The ring is made of rhodium - the world's most expensive metal --encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January's inauguration ceremony.
Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.

He relied on the goodwill of the American People to be elected (ie people used their own funds) so he should be setting an example to the rest of the Americans telling them to save money during the hard times up until the economic situation begins to improve. Because they have the money and they can do anything they want no matter how hypocritical their actions are. Like so many liberal rich people, they act as if they care but only because they get rich off of other people’s support.

That was my reaction too. Obama is not even President yet, but he’s already figured out means of corruptly enriching himself. All of the low paid former Clinton appointees like Albright, Gorelick and Emmanuel are now millionaires on the basis of their contributing to the financial meltdown while working for the NYSE or Fannie Mae.
I don’t know much about Truman, but at least he was a rare Democrat who started with little means and never sold out the people by trading on the privelage of serving the public.

Can you imagine the outrage, if a Republican president elect would do someting like that?
It would be on all the front pages: “People are losing their homes, lost half of their retirements, and the president-elect is flaunting his wealth”.
And to add insult to injury, he is having it made in Italy, not even in the US.
We are seeing a glimpse of the real Obama — who thinks and planning to be a king a dictator, not a US president.
