The country's economy is in shambles, but President-elect Barack Obama is reportedly sparing no expense when it comes to bling for his first lady.
Obama is giving wife Michelle a $30,000.00 diamond-encrusted Harmony ring made of "black gold" - rhodium - the world's most expensive metal, London's Daily Mail reported online last night.
Made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco, the pricey thank-you ring will be ready in time for the inauguration, the report said.
"Our agent in the United States was asked by Barack Obama about the ring because he wants it as a thank-you gift for his wife, Michelle, for her support the last two years," a spokesman for the designer said.
Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined every year, making its price higher than gold's, typically around $7,000 an ounce.
The queen's crown jewels are rhodium-plated.
"We have a select number of clients in the United States, Europe, Russia and the Middle East, and our prices, as a result, reflect the wealth of our customers," the spokesman said.

There is no way you can convince me that those two women are the same person.
Michelle shouldn’t accept it. She was out there eschewing people who chose high income professions and instead exhorting people to choose low paying social worker positions.
Inscription on the inside? “Property of George Soros” :)
“Betcha the MSM won’t touch this one.
As they should not. Spending one’s own money is nobody else’s business. Spending donors’ money in violation of federal election finance law is everybody’s business.
Hmmmm, then why has the MSM not pursued what was probably the most corrupt dhimmicratic money raising campaign since the Clinton era?
Sorry, buddy, the Obamaloon is a crook, and you know it.
“metal minds”???
I thought it was Metal Heads.”
Any way, he won, so he needs her to stick by him. If he’d lost, maybe she would’ve divorced him over his affairs.
I imagine because it is a ‘thank-you’ gift related to the campaign that makes it possible to use any excess campaing contributions for it??
Didn’t Zero already give all of his staffers free laptops?
Heh. Rhodium? Most of that stuff is mined in SA by African wage slaves in hellish conditions.
Those diamonds.... Are they blood diamonds, too?
I love it! Let’s get her a set of matching earrings!

That would be about how many years of income for his half-brother in Kenya? How many meals for his aunt living on welfare in NYC?
$30K would pay for the “radical” underbite repair she so deperately needs.
He may even have a few “augmentation” dollars to spare!
Precisely.
No matter how much bling you hang on Michelle she’s still... Michelle.
This bling just may be an early form of reparations.
Because he won't extend the same right to the rest of us, which is the reason he feels fine about taxing our hard-earned dollars to "spread the wealth."
Because it is hypocritical for him to make such a showy display of luxury buying while telling the rest of us that we have to "sacrifice" and cut back.
Because he tells us that "we are our brothers' keepers," but can't find an extra $20 a month to send to his own destitute brother in Africa. Meanwhile, he sponsors senate legislation to send $845 billion of Other Americans' Money to address "Global Poverty."
Because he wants to limit executive pay and increase the capital gains tax on the grounds of "fairness."
Because as pure symbolism, given his whole campaign message, it stinks.
He most certainly can spend it as he wishes.
And we most certainly can comment thereon.
Where’s the outrage? Sarah had a “borrowed” wardrobe and the press and talking heads were up in arms. M 0bama gets a $30K coronation ring and there’s barely a whimper.
