NATO Confirms Support for U.S. Missile Shield

BRUSSELS, Belgium — NATO foreign ministers on Wednesday confirmed their support for U.S. plans to install anti-missile defenses in Europe despite Russia's strong opposition.

The ministers said the planned U.S. defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic will make a "substantial contribution" to protecting allies from the threat of long-range ballistic missiles.

Russia has vehemently opposed the deployment, threatening to respond by placing short-range missiles in its westernmost region, Kaliningrad, which borders Poland. The U.S. insists the defenses are aimed at potential attack from Iran and pose no threat to Russia's ballistic arsenal.

All 26 NATO allies signed the statement backing the deployment of interceptor missiles in Poland and an advanced radar station in the Czech Republic.

They love to ride in our shadow, bashing us, ridiculing our every move yet mooching from our success. Any failure is our fault, any success is theirs, use the Balkans or even the Cold War as an example. But at the end of the day, the truth is obvious. We are the glue that keeps it together, and even they know this. We are the ones paying the disproportionate price in every aspect and we are the ones leading the pact, with them tucked safely under our wings. When push comes to shove, they understand very well that Iran isn't their friend, that Belarus is a dictatorship, the Russia today is a mild version of the former Soviet Union, or that Kaddafi is only playing along nicely because he knows we hold an axe over his head. So, for years we were hearing how ALL the Europeans oppose us. How ALL their leaders were against it. How missile defense will destabilize the world, cause a new arms race, and that the threat is just a figment of George Bush's imagination. In the end while they spew their typical "imperialism, oil cowboy" crap sit in the same boat with us, they just don't want to contribute, and hate it when they are called out for what they are.

There is only a hand full of nations in Europe that carry their own weight.

Many are hoping this economic pullback will bring down the USA, however the biggest hits will be on the emerging and former communist states. The USA will be the one country left standing and will own the planet.

And they are our friends east of Germany, who understand life without freedom. Talk to anyone who lived under communist dictatorships and they know the value of America having their back.

Well I wouldn’t want them manning it, or repairing it myself. They could pay some kind of service fee though.

Star Wars Part Deux is reaching the absurd.

The Czech radar positioning south of the Polish missile base is intended to serve as early warning of missiles from the South east.

Namely, the phantom Iranian missile with the phantom nukes, not to mention phantom nukes fitted for a warhead on a missile.

This position was to assure the Russians that the missile defense was useless against them. Let alone they could make the system useless with one conventional missile strike. Heck, we offered them the same system—because, of course, it’s not about the security, it’s about the money.

The Russians must know this, but feel their turf is being invaded.

It’s the end of a joke. The Star Wars Part Deux money brought in Bush, but not Obama. Star Wars will wane. Obama’s peeps are the carbon traders, that will come.

Insanity rules in the beltway.

NATO should install their stupid shields where the sun don’t shine.

let’s assume that Iran has stupid ass missiles - which is not at all obvious: wht not install the “shield” closer to the action - Iran—you know like in the “friendly allies” states of Saudi Arabia and Egypt? How about Afghanistan where our treasure has been depleted fighting an endless war agasitn madmen for a bunch of madmen?

No - the stuck on stupid bunch install billions in military weaponry in central europe at the throats of our allies the Russians...and yes they are our allies in the WOT.

“There is only a hand full of nations in Europe that carry their own weight.”

Yeah and that nation - Serbia - was bombed to smithereens on the orders of the Clinton maniac.

I do not trust NATO any more-—why should anyone?

They like to point the finger at us, and that's a constant no matter where or what, but yet they sit in the boat with us and need it possibly even “more-so” than us. They just like someone else to pay for it as you state, but also to take the political heat.

Again, Balkans. The political heavyweights behind that war were the Germans and Brits, and today years later when there is anything negative do you think a German politician is going to justify anything or make any public statement why it was right, needed, etc? Hell no. They will stand out front in some demonstration for the victims of depleted uranium or some other made up crap.

But it's worse than this. They “expect” us to do the right thing. They demand that we be there for them when called upon like in the Balkan crisis, and while they do nothing or as little as possible they are often profiteering economically as in Iraq before 2003, Cuba, or elsewhere. Let us deal with the real problems, while they do as little as possible and profiteer.

“They love to ride in our shadow”

Given the first fact that the US of A go down the drain at the moment, it’s not all that funny to ride in that shadow.

The other fact: It was W who came up with the ‘one superpower’ doctrine in 2002 and you Sir suposedly elected the bunch that proudly wanted to do everything and all to be the one nation that leads all others !

You should stop the bitching and pick yourselfs up (when you are ready falling).

Super dupper.

Sehr typisch Deutsch. Voller Heuchelei, schadenfreude, nutzloss.

Interesting how the tone reference missile defense has changed, isn't it? No worries, in your Spiegel world other stories will dominate. Emphatically and unanimously the Europeans now throw themselves behind missile defense. I thought you guys wanted change too, and hoped that this hegemonic, imperial, Bush, oil inspired, unilateral, technically impossible, destabilizing, arms race starting idea would get struck down now now. Why are you within NATO now making all these symbolic efforts to show that you're actually really for it?????? I figured your politicians would be cheering and screaming “Entlich ein ende von SDI.”

Now worries though, like in all other cases, you won't remember your own words and actions. You won't see yourself for the vermin you are. But I do. I do remember “your” people hanging on our base fences after we bomber Libya for La Belle. I do remember “your” people and the protests against the nuclear Lance, Pershing, and GLGM. I guess nuclear deterrence did work? But no worries, that too is forgotten by the simply minds that jump on every political bandwagon as your type does. I also remember your people being silent after Pan Am 103 where the bomb was smuggled on board at Frankfurt a.M. or the quick retreat you made after 911 and in Afghanistan. What does the German “Uneingeschraenkte Solidaritaet” mean? Not much. Your republic only exits because others created and paid for it. Your people have decided that that they would rather live on their knees than die on their feet many years ago.

Well,

I’m happy to see that your country, and of course the sheep living there, now after all “do” see a need for missile defense. LOL

Very typical.

I don’t know what the problem is with you and you since failed to explain.
You never miss to give a hint to der spiegel ... as if spiegel wasn’t an all pro american magazin ?!

It’s THE magazin that wrote about germans (in german and in germany) might need another ‘umerziehung’ because of the all to loud anti-americanism (following the more then unappropriated pressure on germany to join the iraq adventure.)

Missile defense is hardly discussed over here - we have other issues. (as you should)

“Your people have decided that that they would rather live on their knees than die on their feet many years ago.”

Certainly dieing is not our main objective any more.

Certainly After Bush jr. announced his one superpower world domination act, we don’t answer much “please die for us” calls - nor do we like to transfer much more billions to pay for the all marble homes you built for your unemployed masses, because tehy got work for 5h a week.

You're my daily comic relief.

You remind me of the Black Knight from Monty Python.

Go crawl away and pretend to yourself that you matter or made a difference about anything. Your people, nation, and culture are history. Already today Germany de facto no longer exists, and you're probably proud of that too, just like you think yourself as better for believing in your “ersatz religion.”

It is very depressing to see what Germany and her people have degenerated into. So now, that the missile defense shield which you ensured you were covered under and bought into while your politicians were running around screaming about the stupid and crazy Americans, you suddenly feel the urge to make political statements that show support for this system after all, now that a new president is coming in and he's not to favorable of it. Interesting isn't it? So there you sit, with your SM3, Patriot PAC3, a member of MEADS, and under the Interceptor shield.............. Understanding your type is real simple.

Yeah - what fools we are...

Guys like you want to live in a glorious 4th reich that dominates all and everything - you talk about depleted genes like göbbels once did, chear about the first american concentration camp, and demand money for protection.

All that’s missing is that you sold some hookers - oh wait the US porn industry is maybe about the only thing NOT going down in flames at the moment.

You are willing to pay every price to live in that pipe dream of eternal global super power... if you can find someone to bugger for money because you don’t earn up to your lifestyle.

Schröder - that’s the guy who you refer to when you talk about ‘our politicians’ - sorry, since you just can count to three you maybe know 2 more - once said. ‘We are not going to join an iraqi adventure - the US should care more about stability’

A wise guy from the perspective of today.

Let’s look at your attitude from the past:

“Germany is a socialist society because there’s some states owned enterprises” - Your banking system is in states hands - there’s no investmentbanking anymore.

“military projects like the eurofigher aren’t worth anything because there’s hardly any money in europe to finance future needed upgrades” - look at F35 now - will it come to service ?

“socialism in germany is the reason for the high unemployment rate” well - our’s is lower then yours now.

The list of your envy is endless. You can’t bear to be ridiculed when you march in your gay military boots through the internet claiming to be a member of the new master race.

(Driving to and from the gun range in 70ies tech cars that use more fuel to cool the motor then to drive, preparing for the day that will never come - the day the world would look up to the USA again after 80 long years because they heroically won another war for freedom - instead you just may help in the lame attempt to secure resources for the benefit of a hand full of international, mainly muslim investors)

See - I can rant much better then you. Cheers mate !

Projection: is a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts and/or emotions to others. According to (Wade, Tavris, 2000) projection occurs when a person's own unacceptable or threatening feelings are repressed and then attributed to someone else.......

Funny how Germans always love to compare the the US military, the US, or the US President to some Nazi.

When is the last time anyone looked at Germany to solve anything?

Where is Germany today economically, politically, and in defense when ranked on the world stage as compared to 10 (economically Place 4), 20 (Place 3), and 35 (Place 2) years ago?

I know I know, the US is at fault for Global Warming, high oil prices, your economy, Germany ended the Cold War, you fixed the Balkans.............. got it. You worry about the important stuff and advise us on what to do from the side lines. In the meantime enjoy your unified Germany, a Cold War that ended the way it did, and today a missile defense shield you want after all, despite eight years of bashing the US over what you said would cause: an arms race, destabilize the world, is technologically impossible, costs too much, is unilateral......... Schmarotzer volk.
