She must be right. Should an Aztlan insurgency arise, we'll all go back to Europe, blacks to Africa.
Where we'll submit to the various Muslim insurgencies.
No one is bothering the Eskimos, are they?
I haven’t conceded her point at all. I don’t believe that it was institutional at all. My point again, is even if it was, so what. We didn’t go there first.
I understand
Early one morning, I led my platoon into a Montagnard Village that we had visited the day before. From our ambush position, we had heard firing that seemed to be coming from the village and we rucked up to investigate.
I found the village chief and his wife, with whom I had shared a meal and discussed local events. They had both been beheaded and hung upside down outside their hooch. Their heads were stuck on stakes driven into the ground in front of the hooch. Inside were two young children, about 3 and 4 years of age. Their intestines were protruding from the wounds in their sides caused by the explosion of a grenade thrown into the hooch. They were still alive and remained so when they got to the evac hospital in Pleiku. My medic and I treated and comforted them on the flight back. They both died on the operating table.
That’s what happened to you when you cooperated with the Americans and the VC/NVA cadre found out about it.
This disgusting, worthless, communist b!tch can stick it where the Sun doesn’t shine. Words cannot express how much I detest slime like her.
I think we should invite her to the wall in Washington DC, gather all those that fought in Nam and all those that were in the military during that period and have her read her book out loud!!
I consider war to be hell and any and all means are on the table. Women and children are acceptable military targets in a war zone.
The family of the soldiers or guerrilas who are shooting at you are absolutely acceptable targets. That enemy soldier needs to consider the fate of his family as he decides to go to war. Whether they will be alive if he returns home. And if there will be anything left to return home to.
At what point did the homes and families of our enemies become untouchable?
While its a nice idea that women and children shouldn’t have to suffer in a war, but why shouldn’t they? Do they not enable the war to proceed. Supplying the enemy with moral support, provisions, and new recruits.
Absolutely they are targets. To be dispatched as collateral damage. There homes should be destroyed their crops and livestock are to be destroyed as well. If an enemy solder has the welfare of his family on his mind it makes him much less effective and if he has no provisions and follow-on soldiers there is no relief for him.
So, I don’t consider what was done, if anything, as an atrocity. It is the collateral damage of any war. My Lai was collateral damage and a message to other VC collaborator villages, to not support the VC or risk the same fate. Why is this a war crime or an atrocity. Sounds like Gen. Sherman’s march to the sea. Scorched earth is how wars are won.
Just my view of things. But I’m an “all in to win” kind of person. If I’m not all in, I’m out. I don’t do things halfway and I don’t pussyfoot around.
The author and those who think like her, want sanitized war, where civilians go about their lives unmolested as the war rages about them. That women and children suffer the most during war, that they are innocent. Yes they do suffer most, as they should, but they are far from innocent. They are as much a cog in any war machine. Rosie the Riveter anyone?
During WW2 the soldiers were drafted for the duration. Those who were drafted in 1945 were children when the war broke out in 1941
Thanks, I remember that now. I don’t have a problem with shooting the guy in the back. I think I recall the VC was wounded, but I still don’t have a problem. I respect the fact that he showed up, but that quickly fades. The guy sickens me.
Collateral damage and war crimes are quite different, both in intent and scope. IMO the authors charges are unfounded.
Well, I was born about 7 miles from that very interchange and spent the next 21 years there (miss it every day)... I assure you that it wasn’t always that way. Once Dell took off it seemed like there was an influx of Californians overnight.
Enjoy your trip and watch out for the hippies... they do attack when provoked.
Yes, they are unfounded.
True to liberal form the author is trying to resurrect an issue for personal gain and little else. This is not a subject that she cares deeply about or has any vested interest in besides enriching herself.
If this were a scholarly work on the idea of war crimes in Vietnam it would examine the NVA as well as the VC. This book is just this authors attempt to shake the money tree to see if anything falls out.
Well maybe, in a general way, but I can’t think of the Pulitzer without thinking of “columnist” Leonard Pitts, who won a Pulitzer merely for being a black liberal when he can barely write a coherent sentence, and his only theme is “Whitey be pickin’ on me”. The column he wrote when his nephew got arrested (at Leonard’s house) was a masterpiece of black outrage.
Later....
I’d like to know the names of those interviewed, bet it’s the same VVAW bastards that lied in the 70’s.
There's only one case that I know of where any of the Winter Soldier bastards was ever under oath. That was a few years ago in connection with the Stolen Honor lawsuit.
The creep was under oath and had to admit that the war crime he committed was NOT due to American military policies, but was in fact a personal act of revenge because of the death of a friend.
Winter Soldier was a lie. Q.E.D.
The IVAW’s own Winter Soldier “testimony” is also collateral damage rather than true war crimes.
War is brutal and they focus on that and call it a war crime. And they are lying bastards because they know the difference and still spread the Big Lie.
They’ll never condem all war as a crime, just the ones America might win.
