Jesus vs. the Atheists
BillOReilly.com ^ | Dec 04, 2008 | Bill O'Reilly

Posted on 12/05/2008 1:38:18 AM PST by rhema

Just in time for the Christmas season, the Governor of Washington State, Christine Gregoire, has insulted Christians all over the world. Inside the state capitol building in Olympia, there is a traditional holiday display featuring a tree and the Nativity scene-perfectly appropriate since the Christmas federal and state holiday celebrates the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

But this year, Governor Gregoire decided to add another item to the display. Standing alongside the baby Jesus is a giant placard designed by atheists that reads, "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

You read that correctly. The governor of Washington State has permitted an attack on religion to be displayed in her office building as part of a Christmas presentation.

Now, even the producers of 'The Twilight Zone' would have rejected this script as being too far-fetched. Governor Gregoire's behavior is offensive, insulting to all people of faith, and totally incomprehensible.

Unless you know what's going on in Washington State.

Seattle now rivals San Francisco for secular-progressive nuttiness. The city fathers are allowing public nakedness in city parks, nude bike riding, and in Fremont, a Seattle suburb, they actually put up a statue honoring Lenin, the father of communism.

Some on the Seattle school board actually supported denigrating Thanksgiving by teaching children about the atrocities against Native Americans by the Pilgrims.

In addition, Washington State voters have passed assisted suicide, and the state gives out free birth control pills, including the "morning after" pill.

On the quality-of-life front, the streets of Seattle are full of homeless people, but they don't have to be out in the rain. The city will pay to house alcoholics and drug addicts if they want it. They can actually get free furnished apartments. Taxpayers, of course, pick up the tab.

Outside of the Seattle area, Washington State is fairly conservative. But the big city population base rules, and far-left zealots are running wild. However, they may have overstepped on this Christmas deal.

I believe that most Americans, even those living in far-left enclaves, respect uplifting traditions like Christmas where peace and love are the theme of the great day. Calling religion "enslaving" doesn't exactly fit into the peace and love scenario, does it? Can't we all just get along for a few weeks in December?

The answer to that question is "no." Not in Washington State, where the governor believes a few nuts have a legal right to run down the Christmas tradition in the lobby of the capitol building. At this point, there is little left to say except this: Where are the wise men when you need them?

I believe that most Americans[...] respect uplifting traditions like Christmas [...]

If it's being done for tradition, then it's not religious.

If it's religious, then what's to prevent me from getting a display that says, "Atheists who think religion is enslaving are not the True Atheists" by the same logic that got them theirs?

Interesting thing about this is that Jesus' teachings in such a case are to shake the dust off one's sandals and move on, but I bet many "Christians" won't choose to do that.

There has been some discussion about an ad campaign on Washington, DC buses paid for by a secular humanist organization. The general message is why believe in God, just be good for goodness’ sake.

The ads have run for about a month, gotten a fair bit of media notice, and apparently gained more than enough new members to pay for the ad campaign.

“If it’s being done for tradition, then it’s not religious.”

The tree would be tradition, a pagan remnant; the Nativity would be a religious tradition.

well the tree usually has a star and angel ornaments so that made it more religious.

Believe you me. Seeing a Seattlite naked on a bike or in a park is quite a bit different then say a Los Angeleno or a a San Diegoan. Believe you me. This is not a site you want to see.

I say if they can write a sign let us write a sign. Let us state what the Gospel is and call all to repentance. What is grease for the goose is also grease for the Gander:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but hath everlasting life.

Make this Christmas a time of true repentance and love toward The Creator God. Accept, if you haven't already, the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ His Son who gave His life for all of us. He died on cross to pay the awesome price that our sins required so that we can become free from the penalty of our sins.

The LORD God truly loves you and we welcome you into His eternal family. We truly hope that you accept His wonderful and generous gift of a cleansed heart and a brand new and eternal life. Have a truly Merry Christmas and may God Bless You!

And may the best sign win!

After shaking the dust off your sandals, you take your peace (the blessing you claimed for that town) with you. Then again, if all Christians in Washington state abandoned the place, what would be left? I live in a Godless area myself and I cannot find it within me to simply withdraw to a nice conservative place and live in my Christian bubble. When we retire, if that word is still in everyday usage, it would be to a Christian bubble.

Since this comes from Bill O’Reilly, we think it’s stupid, even though we agree with it, because everybody knows that FReepers can’t stand Bill O’Reilly.

I’m a FReeper and I like O’Reilly. I don’t always agree with him or his points, but then like most people on this site I tend to have my own opinions and thoughts. I think he’s much better than the media types spewing their liberal rhetoric today. But that’s just my thought...feel free to have your own and disagree.

Some call it integrity, or practicing what you preach, or walking the walk; some call it a bubble. Not criticizing you or your choices, except choice of word. We all live in a "bubble," of some sort, don't we? The word implies impermeability and some loss of variety, but like the word "discrimination," it used to be a good thing!

“”There are no gods, no devils, no angels,”

Good cover to work under if you’re in that category. Every spy, saboteur and terrorist would like people to believe he doesn’t exist.

If you want to see some pure vitriol in a thread here, make that thread about B O’R or GWB.
We (the Right) waste way too much energy fighting each other.

"Interesting thing about this is that Jesus' teachings in such a case are to shake the dust off one's sandals and move on, but I bet many "Christians" won't choose to do that."

That teaching only applied to the Apostles missionary activities. It's kind of hard for Christians who have to live and work in Seattle to do.
