Paging Joe the Plumber: Obama Still Wants To Spread The Wealth
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 12/07/2008 8:06:47 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

After the flap caused during the campaign when he famously told Joe the Plumber that he wanted to "spread the wealth," I figured Barack Obama wouldn't be making such a suggestion again anytime soon. I figured wrong.

Pres.-elect Obama to Tom Brokaw on today's Meet The Press:

"I think the important principle, because sometimes when we start talking about taxes, and I say I want a more balanced tax code, people think, well, that's class warfare. No. It turns out that our economy grows best when the benefits of the economy are most widely spread. And that has been true historically."

Dear Barry,

Fertilizer works best when it’s spread; but not money!

What can Joe the Plumber do? The only thing he could do is get on a talk show and discuss this. He did go on that Huckabee show and it really did not resonate among the Americans. I think Americans just don’t care about taxes right now. In fact, I don’t think they have cared about them in years or so it seems.

I’m not so concerned with spread the wealth as I am concerned with the Obama Commissars who will be installed on each block to enforce the rules.

It turns out that our economy grows best when the benefits of the economy are most widely spread.

That is NOT true. He is mixing up cause and effect. When the economy grows, the benefits spread because more people have good paying jobs. When you take from those entities that create jobs (small businesses, for the most part) and just spread it to those whom the government deems worthy, it stifles the ability of the job creators to create wealth in the first place. It's just taking water from one side of a bucket, transferring it to the other side and expecting the water level to rise.

Sheer lunacy. How can educated people actually buy into this?

Bunk, Obama. Look at the socialist countries in Europe which are in even if worse shape economically than we are. The former Soviet Union collapsed under communism. History is filled with examples of socialism and / or communism destroying nations. This man is an intellectual lightweight, controlled by master puppeteers behind the scenes, like Soros. He has no real world experience running ANYTHING, and now he’s going to try and “run” America.

I hope we can survive this man. He is deadly.

It's not the right time for us to move on this issue.

The people whose taxes Obama wants to raise have lost more money in the market in the past twelve months, and have suffered or threatened with loss of income, far exceeding whatever they gained in seven years under the lower Bush tax rates. Most higher income believe that if they had to sell their house today they'd be lucky to get mid-2001 prices -- i.e., the prevailing price just when the first Bush tax cut took effect. (Average prices are above mid-2001 levels in many higher-end areas only because virtually no houses are selling).

While I don't believe that Obama is correct to say that higher taxes causes higher growth, we need get the S&P back to 1100 and restore the income confidence typical $300k-$500k earning family back to where it was in 2007. Housing recovery will take longer.

Luckily for the economy, though, Obama seems to be willing now to wait for the 2010 expiration of the Bush tax cuts rather than repeal them earlier. If we get that incremental recovery between now and then, we may be able to organize politically to extend the tax cuts before they expire.

We’ve had barf alerts for sometime. I propose a head up the butt alert (HUTA) or head still up the butt alert (HSUTA) to be included with titles. Anything Obama is still repeating from the election campaign should carry a HSUTA alert.

As The Marxist Onada tells it, redistributing wealth must come before an economy can be good. Although it fits his Marxist template it’s about the dumbest thing he’s said so far. Naturlally, he was not challenged to explain how that works.

Tighten your seat belts folks we’re in for a rough ride—especially if you are getting paid a good wage, have managed to accumulate a retirement nest egg, and pay your bills. In other words you have money and are a responsible person. To The Marxist Onada those of us who fall into that category are destined to carry the water for those who contribute nothing, earn nothing and who live disfunctional lives.

I guess Obama is as dumb as he looks. That tax plan of his is sure a great incentive for people to improve themselves. NOT!!! Obviously Obama has never studied or understood the effects of LBJ’s Great Society scam. Promising people the hard-earned wealth of others does not make them work hard or work at all. It makes them dependent on government. Which, I guess, is what Obama wants.
