LOGAN, UTAH Forever a part of American electoral history, Joe Wurzelbacher -- better known as "Joe the Plumber" -- is hitting back at the media for its coverage of him over the past year, telling Editor & Publisher the reporting has been "poorly done." In a wide-ranging interview with E&P, Wurzelbacher also shared his thoughts on Sarah Palin (he hopes she doesn't run for president in 2012), Palin's references to him in her new book, and the charge that he has capitalized off the publicity that has come with being Joe the Plumber. He also called President Obama's ideology "un-American."...

Will media that savaged Joe the plumber now go after the fake doctor? When regular citizen "Joe the Plumber" asked an innocent, heartfelt, but challenging question of presidential candidate Barack Obama last year, he ended up getting skewered by the "mainstream" media. Every detail of his past was looked at for possible motives and nefarious associations. Democratic state officials in Ohio even thumbed through his records illegally to find dirt on him. That somehow doesn't happen with liberals. A woman at Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee's town hall meeting in Texas recently claimed to be a pediatrician and stood up to...

Few of President Obama’s 2008 campaign pledges were more definitive than his vow that anyone making less than $250,000 a year “will not see their taxes increase by a single dime” if he was elected. And he was right, very strictly speaking: It’s going to be many, many, many billions of dimes.

HOLLAND, Ohio (Reuters) - "Joe the Plumber," who came to symbolize U.S. taxpayer frustration during last year's election, sounds even angrier now at what he sees as excessive government spending on the economy and healthcare reform. Things are not going as planned for the Obama administration. The millions of new jobs President Obama guaranteed have not materialized. Furthermore, the gazillion dollars of "stimulus money" Congress gave the President as a gift to spend however his fancy leads him somehow isn't actually finding its way into the economy. New York Times columnist Paul Krugman says the problem is we aren't spending ever more money that we don't have. Obviously we need more money. But where are we going to get it? I think I know. This is very simple. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs went out of his way today to blast CNBC's Rick Santelli for his "rant" yesterday against Obama's mortgage assistance plan. The early press reaction asks why the White House would give Santelli free publicity and elevate him to Official status? Even without the election of Barack Obama and Democratic gains in Congress, conservatives were going to have to reassess much of their philosophy on the key issues of taxing and spending. The financial crisis has already led to a vast expansion of spending, and even if John McCain had won, there was going to be a lot more to come. The aging of the baby boom generation alone means there will be increasing demands for Social Security, Medicare and other programs for the elderly in coming years. (The first baby boomer turns 65 in 2011.) Moreover, Americans’ zeal for tax...

Here is video of an enterprising 10-year-old student journalist from Florida being interviewed by Norah O'Donnell. He is from Florida and is trying to book an interview with President Barack Obama. During the interview, he is asked about an interview he already did with Vice-President Joe Biden. He says Biden is "long-winded person," to which O'Donnell gives a horse-laugh and says he is known by journalists to be "verbose." The kid has clearly got Biden pegged! He makes the Biden comment at the 1:32 mark. At the end of the interview, he says he wants to ask Obama if he...

Live From Sderot: It's Joe the Plumber! January 12, 2009 Posted by John at 2:42 PM PJTV is the most ambitious effort yet launched to offer an alternative to "mainstream" coverage of the news. It is, no doubt, a long shot; but then, nearly every successful venture started out as a long shot. One thing PJTV has going for it is superb video streaming technology--the best I've seen, actually. And it's got Paul and me, who have been doing a more-or-less-weekly "Power Line Report." So far, PJTV's biggest PR coup has been sending Joe Wurzelbacher--Joe the Plumber--to Israel to report...

TIME magazine got a twofer on a recent screed headlined "Is Israel Losing the Media War in Gaza?." Not only did TIME use its article to take a few swipes at Samuel Joe Wurzelbacher (known as Joe the Plumber) but it also took the opportunity to once again blame the Jews for everything going on in Gaza. Naturally, TIME's description of Joe the Plumber was more a cut at him than an accurate picture. Not only that, but TIME seemed to have somehow forgotten that Barack Obama made Joe famous, not John McCain! Read the rest at Publiusforum.com...
  • CNN's Rick Sanchez Calls Out Joe the Plumber

We've seen the mainstream media afflicted with Palin Derangement Syndrome. We've experienced the media in the throes of Bush Derangement Syndrome. Over at CNN, which modestly styles itself as the most trusted name in news, there's now an outbreak of Joe the Plumber Derangement Syndrome. Last week CNN Newsroom anchor Kyra Phillips went after Joe. Today, it was CNN Newsroom anchor Rick Sanchez's turn at bat. Mustering as much blow-dried earnestness as possible, he relieved himself of an editorial on what's nominally a news program: Meanwhile, something else to take note of today. I want to share with you the...

Pajamas TV sent Joe to Israel to cover the conflict in Gaza from a genuine citizen reporter’s perspective, and that is exactly what we have gotten from him: reports that contain a moral and personal perspective that while present in a professional reporter would most certainly be transparent. Not so with Joe’s reporting. Like Lincoln’s plain manner of speaking, Joe’s commentary is still unvarnished; it still “has the bark on” as the phrase was applied to Lincoln. And if anyone reading this immediately jumps to the conclusion that I am comparing Joe Wurzelbacher to Abraham Lincoln, you have a perfect...
  • "Joe the Plumber": Media Should be "Abolished from Reporting" on the Scene of War - Video 1/13/09

"Joe the Plumber," (Samuel Wurzelbacher) now in Israel to report for Pajamas Media on the war with Hamas in Gaza, found himself the subject of interviews as you will see in the video above. Among other things, Joe criticized the way the media covers wars today, and said the media should be "abolished from reporting" on the scene to cover wars. I would disagree with Joe. He's right that there has been a great deal of biased and unfair reporting on wars in Vietnam and Iraq. But there have been journalists who report admirably on the scene of combat situations...

I just finished watching Joe the Plumber's first report on PJTV, after reading a really well-written and snappy criticism of the venture that I ran across. A lot of people in the media seem to be weighing in on the Joe Wurzelbacher-as-journalist phenomenon. Most of them are, like this review, unimpressed with his product. After viewing the report personally, I think it's notable how when someone who isn't trained AT ALL goes out and does just as good a job as the pedigreed mainstream media does, they react so.... snottily...

"You should be ashamed of yourself," he told foreign reporters. ----snip---- He also wondered why Israel waited so long to act. "I know if I were a citizen here, I'd be damned upset." He described himself as a "peaceloving man," but added, "when someone hits me, I'm going to unload on the boy. And if the rest of the world doesn't understand that, then I'm sorry."
