The Western MSM will pick up “militia” to paint these anti-Mullah patriots as “right wing fanatics”. Too bad people in a totalitarian system never have a 2nd Amendment.

A very large percentage of the Iranian people are pro-Western. They are more concerned of their Persian ancestry than Islam An airstrike or invading Iran is a very bad idea IMO. We need to support the anti-mullah sentiment as much as possible.

The problem is that preventing Iran getting nukes, is a run against the clock. I (and many of exile Iranians I know) think that the WMD’s and military facilities of the Revolutionary Guard and regime need to be taken out by force. AFTER the immediate threat is destroyed, we will have plenty time to support pro-Western Iranian factions. A nuclear armed regime will be a lot more harder to remove than a disarmed regime. The anti-Mullah sentiment will only increase in face of the regime economic failures and if the military capabilities are exposed as shallow in face of (US)Israeli force.

Good points. Just need to play it smart. Unfortunately, obama is only going to help the mullahs stamp out the pro-Western factions.

Yes. I think Bush, though unfortunately not being able/willing to take on Iran during his presidency, did well on stressing the ultimate destiny of a free, democratic Iran as (again) a partner.

There are IMO two touchy issues that could cost us the goodwill of an majority of anti-mullah Iranians: 1)separatism and 2)The MKO/MEK/Muhaheddin Khalq. Most Iranians are nationalist and also in Kurdistan and Azerbaijan province most people see themselves as part of Iran (not excluding federalism/some authonomy). Supporting fringe separatists would be counterproductive. And the MKO are despised by Iranians of all stripes for being traitor lunatics who were Saddam's shills.

Anyway we have lost 4 years with Obama, and it's unpredictable what will happen now. Prayers are in order.

Prayers are in order.

Apparently that's all we have left.

You seem to be very knowledgable of the affairs of that region.

Plenty of them in the better LA counties.;o) Once Iran is safe for US travellers again, this aspect of “intercultural contact” will certainly also have a second renaissance.

Well I guess with Obamarama we will not be supporting such “HOPE’ in a hopeless nation. Maybe if they try “CHANGE” it could work! It worked here, and Americans were suppose to be educated people!
