Pakistan must act quickly to help India prevent follow-on attacks amid evidence that Pakistani soil was used by "non-state actors," US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said here Sunday.
Speaking on US television, Rice said she stressed during her visit to Pakistan last week how important it was for Islamabad to cooperate fully and promptly with India, but denied reports of a 48-hour deadline for action.
"The important thing is that Pakistan act and that these people are brought to justice and that any information that they may have is put to use in making sure follow-on attacks don't happen," Rice told Fox television.
In interviews with both Fox News and CNN television, Rice doubted Pakistani officials had a role in the November 26 attacks in Mumbai.
"I think there is no doubt that Pakistani territory was used by probably non-state actors. I don't think that there is compelling evidence of involvement of Pakistani officials," Rice said.
"But I do think that Pakistan has a responsibility to act," she said.

Rice appeared to discourage India from taking unilateral action against India when asked about such a possibility.
"I just think that ... they shouldn't do anything that will make the situation worse," she told Fox News.
She added that during her recent visits to India and Pakistan she "didn't hear a lot of bellicose talk" from the leaders.
"This is a relationship between India and Pakistan that has improved. And they're trying to build on that. But India expects Pakistan to act, and so does the United States," she said.

Why, for our side, Sam.
So what, the Pakistani government has allowed the fellows to exist and multiply. Damn them all. End the high jinks...blast them all to eternal damnation.
If we cannot name the enemy. . .we are doomed.
Hmm, imho, it’s always been more or less a game of smoke and mirrors throughout the ages. IOW, enemies disguise themselves and use front groups, etc., etc. It’s nothing new.
That may be true. But Pakistan did offer them sanctuary and protection. That's 'involvement' enough for me. Last chance to choose the right before other forces are released to clean out the terrorists. That option will probably have large collateral damage losses of innocent people caught in the crossfire.
The terrorists Islamics would like nothing more, than to start a nuclear war between the two countries and involve the US as well, starting WW 3.
Make Mecca like Hiroshima. Problem over. Attack the real enemy for a change.
Kurukshetra War - Kali Yuga ping...
To be added to or removed from this ping list, please FReepmail Sir Francis Dashwood.
The real enemy is in Mecca.
The enemy still resides in Mecca... Why the hell can't some people admit this?
Just the idea of Pakistan having nukes motivates a lot of people to start building shelters.
Question: does anyone know if we - or better yet - the Russians - have missiles aimed at Pakistan? If not why not.
It is an interesting question - why can’t anyone say “the problem is Islamic jihad and has been since the late 600s or early 700s and it won’t stop until some external force PUTS A STOP TO IT.
The problem will never go away on its own. Ever. And will assuredly get worse.
Why won’t they say this? Moral cowardice? They’re paid off? Blackmailed? Drugged by the miasma of “moral relativism”? Just plain “piss soaked hind legs” fear? I don’t know.
And IMO the idea of having women as Sectaries of State is insane.
That is truly terrifying....
Well, for sure nothing new; but I STILL would be interested in who owns this building.
Women like that are few and far between. Some women are warrior types, but it is rare.
