Woman Gets New Windpipe Using Her Own Stem Cells (WOW!)

WASHINGTON (Catholic Online) - A Spanish woman made medical history recently by receiving a new windpipe which had been grown from her own stem cells. The announcement has brought tremendous excitement among the pro-life as well as medical communities. The former group cited this as additional evidence that adult stem cell research, which is in complete accord with catholic social teaching, is producing real results...

Pro-life Obama Ad Viewed over 250,000 Times in Three Days

WASHINGTON, January 22, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A video advertisement being dubbed the "pro-life Obama ad" has been well received by Americans during the week of President Barack Obama's inauguration.  The ad has already been viewed hundreds of thousands of time online, and will soon be appearing on major US television networks.

The ad shows an ultrasound of a baby in a womb, while the text explains that during his life the baby’s father will abandon him, and his single mother will struggle to support him.  But, "despite the hardships he will endure," the ad continues. "This child will become the 1st African American President."  The ad climaxes with a picture of President Obama and the slogan, "Life. Imagine the Potential." (See the ad here: http://www.catholicvote.com/)

The ad was created by CatholicVote.com, a project that the Fidelis Center founded in 2008 to educate Americans on the "critical issues in the public policy arena." During the 2008 Presidential campaign drive, CatholicVote.com released a highly successful Election film that received almost four million views in just eight weeks.

In a recent letter to subscribers, president of CatholicVote.com, Brian Burch described how the new ad has been viewed 250,000 times in three days and made the top ten most viewed videos on YouTube.com.

Obama Administration Considers Pro-Euthanasia British-Style Health Care

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The new administration of president Barack Obama is still putting up nameplates on walls and staff members are learning how to use their computers. How's this for "dialogue" -- 3500 AMERICAN BABIES ARE MURDERED EVERY DAY, the only "dialogue" the abortionists need is that which comes when the beg the Lord for forgiveness.

Thread by markomalley.

Let's start new dialogue on abortion rights (projectile vomit alert!!)

On this, the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we stand at an extraordinary moment for our nation: For the first time, we have elected an African-American president in an election that inspired young and old, people of all races and faiths, men and women, rich and poor.

Many were moved by Barack Obama's call for a new conversation about race, a renewed commitment to our democracy and an agenda that aspires to reach a greater good for all. Today, we focus on the piece of that agenda that holds great promise for reproductive rights.

It is tempting to use this anniversary to recite a litany of policies we want our new administration to enact: from rescinding the global gag rule to restoring affordable birth control at college health centers to reversing the Bush administration's midnight rule allowing a broad range of health care providers to refuse basic reproductive health services...

The death cultists are targeting another crime victim, a six-month old boy, just like they did with Haleigh.

Thread by me.

Wesley J. Smith: A New "Haleigh Poutre" in Texas?

SHS's good friend, attorney Jerri Ward, is gearing up to fight a case in Texas that is eerily reminiscent of the Haleigh Poutre case. An attorney ad litem for a terribly abused baby named David Coronado Jr., wanted to stop all treatment because the baby is expected to remain profoundly cognitively disabled. From the story:

The fate of a brain-damaged 6-month-old Dallas boy is uncertain after his court-appointed attorney on Tuesday withdrew a motion to let doctors take the baby off life support...The baby's attorney ad litem, Holly Schreier, told a juvenile district court judge that doctors at Children's Medical Center Dallas had assessed a change in the baby's condition. She did not say what the change was, and she did not return a call for comment.

A doctor reported in December that he expected David to suffer severe disabilities if he survived. It is unclear if doctors now expect the baby to remain in a vegetative or minimally conscious state. Meanwhile, word of the possible hearing on withdrawing the child's life support had spread over the weekend among right-to-life and disabilities-rights groups, at least one of which readied attorneys to intervene Tuesday morning. "Brains are very resilient, and in a 6-month-old baby, to conclude that he's neurologically devastated and is going to stay permanently that way I think is irresponsible," said Jerri Lynn Ward, an attorney representing Not Dead Yet, a disabilities-rights group.
A few points: First, the child was only injured last month. What's the rush? Second: It is wrong for a guardian to want her ward dead "in his best interests" because he is expected to be seriously disabled if he survives. The message of that decision is stark: his death is better than living with serious disabilities--which I don't think a guardian should be allowed by law to assume.

We saw this same rush to remove treatment and "death is better than profoundly disabled" kind of thinking in Haleigh's case. But for the time it took to get the Supreme Court's approval for the dehydration, Haleigh would be dead today instead of in rehabilitation and going to school. Good grief! Do we never learn?

Hopefully, this will be the end of the matter and the baby will receive proper care. If not, I will comment about it here.

Abortion: Obama's holy war

As one inauguration ends, another begins. Yesterday's March for Life in Washington inaugurated a rebirth of the abortion debate, thanks in large part to the election of President Barack Obama.

The media traditionally ignore or minimize the annual march, despite its large numbers, because it's viewed as a rehash of Roe v. Wade. But this year is different, because many pro-lifers view Obama as militantly pro-abortion rights.

For starters, on the campaign trail he told Planned Parenthood supporters of his desire to sign into law, as quickly as possible, the pro-abortion Freedom of Choice Act. Versions of FOCA have been introduced in Congress since 1989. But FOCA isn't the whole story...

Knights of Columbus Program Helps First Crisis Pregnancy Center get Ultrasound

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new program sponsored by the national Knights of Columbus has helped its first pregnancy center obtain an ultrasound machine. The program is meant to provide pregnancy centers with the tools to help women considering an abortion see their baby and choose pro-life alternatives.

The Supreme Office of the Knights of Columbus and the Florida State Council of the Knights of Columbus yesterday donated $44,050 dollars to the Women's Help Center in Jacksonville, Florida, for the purchase of a new 4-D ultrasound machine.

The donated resulted from the pilot program started by Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, to help the centers lower the number of abortions that occur.

Roy Hatten, CEO of the Women's Help Center, which has three centers in the Jacksonville area, told LifeNews.com he was thankful for the donation.

"Jacksonville is ranked third in Florida the highest number of surgical abortions, with over 8,400 babies killed per year. Our centers are strategically located among four of the five abortion mills in our city," Hatten told LifeNews.com. "We are literally with-in blocks of the busiest" abortion centers in town.

"Our newest center is scheduled to open within weeks and is located next door to one of our local Planned Parenthood offices," he said. "We are extremely blessed to have so much community support, and now, with the addition of this new ultrasound machine, we can help change the minds and hearts of many more women in our town."

Anderson told LifeNews.com that the date of the donation, the thirty-sixth anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed 50 million abortions, is no coincidence.

He said pregnancy centers have been successful in helping more than 80 percent of women decide against an abortion after seeing an ultrasound image of their unborn child.

"The sophistication of today's medical technology provides a 'window on the womb,'" Anderson said. "Even from the early stages of pregnancy, a mother can see her developing child, hear the baby's heartbeat, and to recognize the miracle of new life within her."

The Knights of Columbus ultrasound project seeks to provide medically certified pro-life pregnancy centers with the modern technology to monitor the health of babies in utero, and to allow mothers to visually experience that development.
