Rice: Clinton will be 'terrific' secretary of state (Dry Heave Alert)
CNN ^ | December 7, 2008

Posted on 12/08/2008 12:29:41 PM PST by BulletBobCo

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that she believes Sen. Hillary Clinton will "do a great job" as secretary of state.

In an interview with CNN, Rice also addressed President-elect Barack Obama's victory, saying she believes Americans were "wise in wanting change."

Speaking to CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer," Rice said she has spoken with Clinton since Obama named the former first lady as his pick to be the nation's top diplomat.

"I talked with her and we're going to sit down, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've known her a long time and she is someone that I admire."

Though the two are from opposite political parties, Rice seemed to spare no praise for Clinton, who lost her battle for the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama.

"I've known her for a long time, ever since she brought her freshman daughter to Stanford, when I was provost at Stanford. I think she's going to be terrific," Rice told ABC's "This Week."

She added, "President-elect Obama has made his choice, and he's made a terrific choice. Hillary Clinton is somebody of intelligence, and she'll do a great job. She also has what's most important to being secretary of state, and that is that you love this country, and you represent it from a basis of faith in its values. And I know that she will do that.

"I've watched her — I watched her do it at the conference in Beijing on women. I know that she was someone who felt strongly about the Balkans and the need to stop that terrible killing there. So, from that point of view, she's going to be great."

The conservative movement may have run out of leadership, but WE have not run out of ideas. The ideas of basic conservativism are still superior to the quasi-socialist, tired and failed ideas of the Republican and Democrat parties.

THIS from the woman many in the GOP hoped would run for President or were clamoring to have McLame tap as VP choice.

Another useless "Republican public servant" believing fairy tales about the Clintons.

I love Sarah Palin. I think she will be a lethal candidate in three, maybe six years' time.

That said, Rice would have been a far superior pick for McCain this time round. There is simply no debating this. The Couric interview bears this out. Rice would have destroyed Joe Biden in any VP debate. She would have taken him to school. You know this. Joe Biden likes to hear himself talk, and Rice would have taken him apart in ways that Palin simply isn't ready to now, despite her many innate skills.

All that said, McCain still would have lost, which is the larger point. Once the banking system collapsed, regular voters went solidly into the Democratic column. The election might have been a tad closer as fewer indies might have been turned off by Sarah's "unreadiness", but all that said, this was a Democratic year.

The fact that she speaks well of Clinton is all to the good. As Republicans, we need to encourage this. There is nothing wrong with fomenting trouble in Paradise. Why discourage Hillary Clinton's vanity and ambition? The more we build her up, the more Barack gets in trouble with his Base.

Jesus, is there not one political mind here?

Best,

Chris

“We have to remember that this is the choice of Obama (the most liberal Senator).”

Worse yet, I submit, it is the choice of O’s handlers (who also performed as his international credit card contributors).

“She’s horrible, but not as bad as what could have been for a liberal.”

She is a Marxist, as observed by one of her college profs (unfortunately, I cannot now find a link) and supported by her recent statements. Was anything worse available?

“The Marxists and Capitalists are struggling in a non-violent civil war for the government of our nation, but only the Marxists seem to know that”

isn’t it kind of traditional/de-rigeur to be gracious about their successors? I’m sure that would be the case if a republican were replacing the Democrats.

Condi may or may not be an idiot too. My personal belief is she is far from an idiot, but unfortunately works for one and as she is intimately connected with his administration her political career is over.

People here should REMEMBER the NEXT time a Bush runs for office, e.g. “Jeb” - run for cover.

They are ALL one-worlders and Counterfeit Conservatives which is, perhaps, even WORSE than a RINO.

All the times Bush's people stabbed him in the back and he did nothing about it.

Translation: My boss is an idiot.

Turns out to be true.

I actually agree with you.

But what can be said of Goldwater's inheritance when, not two cycles after the Contract with America, a Republican Majority is feeding at the trough? The fact is, the Mike Pence crowd and the Duncan Hunters of this world were in the minority in a party being run into the ground by Denny Hastert, Tom DeLay, George Bush, and people like McCain and the Senate Republicans.

These people didn't care about Reaganism, nor did they care about the people's money.

And the people weren't fooled. Republicans stayed home in 2006, and, if Karl is right, 2008 as well.

This was Rice's larger point. People were exhausted with Republicans in power because the driving force of the Republican Party, the Conservative Movement, got fat and happy and addicted to pork.

We got our butts kicked, and we deserved it. Period. I have no problems with anything that Condi has said here. She was being gracious, sometimes to a fault because that's how she was raised, but she was making a larger political point.

Best,

Chris

Trust me. Jeb is not George.

Jeb governed Florida like an innovative conservative and left this State with a surplus.

He will be a great Senator. I will work my ass off to get him elected.

Best,

Chris

Outstanding!
And, the forseeable risk is the quasi-socialist ideas will mature into full socialism.

Previously, I have advocated rebuilding the party as more effective than starting a new party.

However, if the USSC does not resolve the eligibility issue in a constitutional manner and the Republicans do not present a vigorous and supported objection on Jan 8, it will be obvious the party has abandoned its oath and America.

At that point we should encourage all of the new, obviously Republican politicians to consider forming a new party.

Can we all remember the way we feel now abt these people from the Bush admin when they start writing their tell-alls and expect we dopes in the conservative movement to buy them? Shut your wallets to ALL of them! Including the “conservative” scribes like Krauthammer, Barnes, Noonan (who’s REALLY trying to sell her latest in the WSJ...) - vote with your wallets by keeping them shut.

I completely agree - Jeb is not of the “Bush” mold and should be given a chance at national office. He just has to promise not to spend the hols with his family!

Or could GWB have received an offer he couldn’t refuse:
Was America taken hostage? The president, one could speculate, had only two choices: (1) play “chicken” and possibly sacrifice the lives of millions of Americans and the destruction of major American cities, or (2) opt for the lesser of two evils, the second being to pave the way for a dangerous Trojan Horse – qualified or not – to capture the White House.
Could it be that the media blackout of the most explosive story of any presidential election in American history has been choreographed by none other than the current POTUS – the most powerful man in the entire world? This would certainly explain why President Bush has not “been himself” since January 20, 2005. It would also explain why the all-powerful media have taken his marching orders – including the New York Times, which takes particular pleasure in undermining and sabotaging the president, even when it comes to national security issues.

If this happened, it would have had to involve the highest echelon in our intelligence services, who might have paid personal visits to publishers throughout the United States, as well as to top TV and radio executives, who themselves would have passed down iron-clad orders – to their anchors, broadcasters, even comedians – to follow the blackout order or face Draconian consequences.

On November 4 – Election Day – the Dow was above 9,000. It is now plummeting, suggesting that even the “globalists” among us prefer tax cuts and capitalism to tax hikes and not creeping but galloping socialism – or what the esteemed Dr. Jack Wheeler insists is fascism. Buyers’ remorse is in the air.

America has been hijacked. What a price we will pay if the Supreme Court and the Electoral College abandon their oaths to uphold the U.S. Constitution by capitulating – as the media have – to our enemies. God Save America!

***All that said, McCain still would have lost, which is the larger point. Once the banking system collapsed, regular voters went solidly into the Democratic column.***

I will NEVER understand why McCain was not yelling from the rooftops that the dems were responsible for the Fannie and Fredie mortgage failures, and the resultant credit crunch.

There are plenty "political minds" out there but they can't get arrested by anyone at the RNC (who only seem to support their own "kind" of politician.

They (as many others) seem to believe that unless someone has a doctorate (preferably in "International Affairs," "Russian or Chinese," etc. they are simply unqualified to withstand the "blistering" they get at the hands of the "news media" personalities.

Who cares - if the person is a true, blue conservative, without a desire to totally trash the Constitution, cave to the Beltway group-think types, give away everything that mom and pop have worked and saved for all of their lives, plus put every illegal alien in a home with a car, they aren't "qualified" for the job.

Did you think that Ronald Reagan was intellectual enough for the job? After one of his first debates with Carter, did you think that he was "too old" or simply "too unintellectual" to hand the complexities that the U.S. faced in the world, also (or do you also remember, first hand, the kinds of smarmy statements made about him?)

Change back to the Klinton years?

Some change.

Ms. Rice, stop digging.
