A Vote for Senator Caroline (Princess to Senator!)
The Washington Post ^ | 12.09.2008 | Ruth Marcus

What really draws me to the notion of Caroline as senator, though, is the modern-fairy-tale quality of it all. Like many women my age -- I'm a few months younger than she -- Caroline has always been part of my consciousness: The lucky little girl with a pony and an impossibly handsome father. The stoic little girl holding her mother's hand at her father's funeral. The sheltered girl, whisked away from a still-grieving country by a mother trying to shield her from prying eyes.

In this fairy tale, Caroline is our tragic national princess. She is not locked away in a tower but chooses, for the most part, to closet herself there. Her mother dies, too young. Her impossibly handsome brother crashes his plane, killing himself, his wife and his sister-in-law. She is the last survivor of her immediate family; she reveals herself only in the measured doses of a person who has always been, will always be, in the public eye.

I know and for some reason they believe this qualifies her to be a Senator.

This is more that that. It's the Kennedy worship syndrome—our tragic national princess. The Kennedy worshipers disgustingly consider them our royal family.

This country would be a better place if the Kennedy family had never existed. Joe Junior, who died on a bombing mission in WWII, was the only one who did anything of value for this country.

Joe senior was a bootlegger and a criminal who fathered a president who provoked the Cuban missile crisis with his weakness at the Bay of Pigs. JFK's surviving brothers were (and are) socialist senators. The younger generation is a collection of wastrels and socialists.

Except for the fact that the senate is now a pig sty, I see nothing that qualifies Caroline for inclusion.

Actually, Ruth, you don’t get to “vote” for Caroline, since you live in Washington DC, not New York. Come to think of it, the people of New York have never voted for Caroline Kennedy either.

In any case, it is clear that there can be only one logical choice for this vacancy. This Senate seat is the designated going-away present for the First Lady as her husband leaves office. So the next Junior Senator from New York must be... Laura Bush!

“The emotionalism of the liberals continues to amaze me.”

Why? The very foundation of liberalism is emotion. Emotion is its raison d’ etre. There is no rational thought associated with liberalism. That’s why so very many people “in the arts” are liberals: Their whole lives and careers are based on eliciting emotion from their audiences.

What really draws me to the notion of Caroline as senator, though, is the modern-fairy-tale quality of it all.

And what really drew 52% of the voters to the notion of Obama as president was the modern-fairy-tale quality of it all too. The consequences of such intellectual infantilism will be grim (or possibly Grimm) nonetheless.

Her bio on Wikipedia speaks of a law degree and working for social causes in what appears to be NYC.

Big freakin’ deal.

No experience running or working for a real business (’ya know - where you have to fight competitors, win business, be strategic, and realize enough revenue to make a profit after taxes). I didn’t see where she used her law degree to fight crime as a DA. I didn’t see where she *individually* acheived a truly notable public good.

She needs to go back to her little ivory tower, do lunch with Oprah, and schedule her next black tie event for the case du jour.

You are correct. The way things are headed, though (and God help us all), Caroline will be POTUS before Sarah. Caroline has only got to be in the Senate for a couple of years, remember? Like Obama. And she won’t have the scandal over her place of birth.

Not ready to resist yet?
