Smithsonian Magazine had a fascinating article over the summer about how this effort was being accomplished. It’s staggering to me that it’s possible to do some of the things these folks are doing, such as measuring light deflections and interactions at the galaxy’s core.

They can’t see the black hole, only imply it’s presence, because there are billions of stars in orbit around the black hole and it’s blocked from any direct view. But the influence it’s gravity has on the orbits of the stars we can see is measurable...

I’ll stop there because we are getting into talking about the longest of long-haired theoretical mathematics here....
