Muslim prayer rooms should be opened in every Roman Catholic school, church leaders have said.
The Catholic bishops of England and Wales also want facilities in schools for Islamic pre-prayer washing rituals.
The demands go way beyond legal requirements on catering for religious minorities.
But the bishops - who acknowledge 30 per cent of pupils at their schools hold a non-Christian faith - want to answer critics who say religious schools sow division.
The recommendations were made in a document, Catholic Schools, Children of Other Faiths and Community Cohesion. 'If practicable, a room (or rooms) might be made available for the use of pupils and staff from other faiths for prayer,' the bishops said.
'Existing toilet facilities might be adapted to accommodate individual ritual cleansing which is sometimes part of religious lifestyle and worship.
'If such space is not available on a permanent or regular basis, extra efforts might be made to address such need for major religious festivals.'
The Islamic cleansing ritual, called 'Wudhu', is carried out by Muslims before they pray.
Islam teaches that Muslims are unfit for prayer if they have not performed Wudhu after breaking wind or using the toilet.
Wudhu involves washing the face, hands, arms and feet three times each, gargling the mouth three times and washing the neck and inside the nose and ears. Some Muslims also wash their private parts.Catholic schools would need to install bidets, foot spas and hoses to facilitate such extensive cleansing rituals, Muslims say.
Daphne McLeod, a former Catholic head teacher from south London, said it would be 'terribly expensive' for the country's 2,300 Catholic primary and secondary schools to provide ritual cleansing facilities.

You look at the person closest to you and say, “Stop that!”.
Ain't gonna work.
It was for a while. Is it still?
Muslims don’t see such a thing as an expression of Christian love. They see it as proof that they are superior. They take it as their due.
Catholic schools fill a tremendous need. They can’t do it if they’ve lost faith in what they do. You have to wonder if the school’s leadership has lost faith in what they do, maybe they’ve lost faith in the God who directs what they do. If thats the case, they need to take a sabbatical and get someone in there who knows why he is there.
I got question what hell is Muslums doing in Cathoic school that question
I bet there’s a whole lot of cheating going on. What think you?
While it is written that they follow this procedure, like people in all religions, most do not do everything by the book.
Well, I do suppose that they do seep a little when they pass gas what with all the hummus!
Exactly right. And any Catholic, especially a member of the clergy, who claims so should be automatically excommunicated.
But the bishops - who acknowledge 30 per cent of pupils at their schools hold a non-Christian faith...
This is about nothing but money: non-Catholic/non-Christian enrollees are paying the bills, so their parents are making demands. And the Catholics are caving.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to receive...cash.
Not all students in Catholic schools, are Catholic.
The same type of Catholic bishops who shoveled millions in parishoner funds to support ACORN and elect baby killers in America.
Probably better than the public schools.

Nowhere.
Just when I start respecting some of the bishops again when they stand up to 0bama, this happens.
There is only one God for all.
... while preaching “peace” and “justice.”
There IS only one GOD.
However, not all worship the ONE GOD.
The moslem allah is of Satan.
Where are the Catholic prayer rooms in Muslim schools?
never!
