Who will fill Obama's senate seat? (So Obama says never met with Blagojevich)
Connect Tri States ^ | November 05, 2008 | Carol Sowers

CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That's one of Obama's first priorities today.

He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

KHQA's Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there's a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

Agreed, however the bloom will be off the rose soon. They are already investigating the Rezco land deal. I think the
media cares more about ratings than 0bama. They are still in the honeymoon period.

I’ll be spreading this news far and wide!

On the Chicago TV show “Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz” on June 27, 2002, state Sen. Obama said, “Right now, my main focus is to make sure that we elect Rod Blagojevich as Governor, we...”

“You working hard for Rod?” interrupted Berkowitz.

“You betcha,” said Obama.

“Hot Rod?” asked the host.

“That’s exactly right,” Obama said.

The two Sneed blurbs were messages to camp 0.

Who will it be?
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Friday, October 17, 2008
Author: Michael Sneed, The Chicago Sun-Times
THE OBAMA CONFLICT?

Sneed hears Barack Obama wants an African American to fill his U.S. Senate seat if he wins the presidency.

- The upshot: U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. wants the spot.

- Hmmmm. That places Gov. Blagojevich , who is charged with selecting Obama ‘s replacement, in a tricky place.

- To wit: Sneed hears Gov. Blago, who dismisses reports of a federal probe, wants to run for office again — and believes replacing Barack with an African American is a smart political move. But he is being urged to select state Sen. Donne Trotter, a close friend of Obama mentor/Senate President Emil Jones, to fill the spot.

- Another dilemma: Sneed is also told U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, who is this/close to Obama and was a major Obama supporter from the get-go, is pitching to have state veteran affairs chief Tammy Duckworth fill Obama ‘s spot, and had the ear of Gov. Blago until recently. Blago is also a big Duckworth fan.

Blagojevich mum on possible successors to Obama
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Friday, October 31, 2008
Author: Rick Pearson and Monique Garcia, TRIBUNE REPORTERS

Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Thursday cited the potential for bad “karma” and avoided discussing potential Senate successors to Barack Obama should the Democratic nominee win the White House, but acknowledged he has a process in mind for making the most important appointment of his career.

“I just don’t want to jinx him and I don’t like the karma of me thinking that far ahead,” Blagojevich said of Obama ‘s prospects in Tuesday’s election. The governor added, “We have had some discussions about a process which we’ll share ... if all goes well.”

Sen. Madigan ?
Chicago Sun-Times (IL) - Friday, November 7, 2008
Author: Michael Sneed, The Chicago Sun-Times
TIPSVILLE . . .

The latest from Blagoville: Is Gov. Rod Blagojevich toying with tossing Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan , who wants Blago’s job?

- It’s his pick . . . and it would get rid of a rival.

- It may endear him to powerful House Speaker Mike Madigan , Lisa ‘s dad, who is Blago’s political foe.

- It would enable Gov. Blago to choose a new Illinois attorney general.

- Hmmm: Even though this sounds like looneyville . . . stay tuned.

Sure. They never spoke. I guess you have to ask what speak means. Maybe they met and sat around in uncomfortable silence for a couple of hours.
